Bailey and Gatlin looked the best, Bolt was the least impressive. Asafa, Blake and Gay looked comfortable. looks to be a great semi and final

YEA... problem?
Some people are simply better at accelerating midrace whereas others pull away later in the race and additionally decelerate less.

Agreed Bolt looked......Horrible
Bolt was jogging. People said he looked the least impressive I have never seen someone run with that little effort to qualify to the semi-finals of 100. Bolt is going sub 9.7 again for sure. If we dont have a crazy rain storm I think tomorrow semi-final will be the fastest in Olympic history. Gemili looks like he could go sub 10 if a good wind. As his heat had no wind. In addition Japanese athlete will have a chance to do the same thing if he can stay relaxed. Excited stuff in a number of different directions.
Regarding Kim Collins,
Something is fishy down in SKN.
First Tameka Williams goes down:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4717525
Now Collins is out.
There has been word of deep internal dissention and unrest among and between the SKN sprinters and their federation.
I personally have no idea what is going on with them. I don't know what the exact circumstances were surrounding the Collins affair, but I do know that something stinks.
I haven't seen the heats yet, but I don't think we'll get any real information until the semi's go.
Since Collins is out, I will replace him with Thompson in the final, and I'm picking him to finish in an adjusted 9.99
Check it out, Chambers made it through to the semi's in a SB 10.02 (+2.0) Did he get booed?
Bledman, Powell, Blake, D. Bailey, and Martina seem to have run economically to make it into the semi's.
Adams and Sorrillo were in a dogfight with 2nd-4th separated by only .02, so they look to have been trying...and a 10.22 (+0.7) isn't promising to make it out of the semi's. Nice to see Atkins in the semi's, however.
Exactly the same situation applies to Su and Adams in heat 6, with Su in 10.19 (+1.3)
Hyman and Adams weren't even in the top 3 in their heats, they don't look promising.
Really nice to see Warner, Vicaut, Gemili, Meite, and Phiri running well!
And Yamagata, 10.07 (+1.3) PB? Nice.
So it looks like the final is setting up as everyone expected, with no big surprises having yet emerged except for Collins getting booted.
Bolt was not \'horrible\'. Bolt was not trying. He will run a sub 9.8 time *guaranteed*, possibly faster. It\'s up to the rest of the field to match up and there is no guarantee they will.
1. Bolt
2. American Sprinter with best time of their life. (Gay, Bailey or Justin etc etc)
3. Blake
Bolt to retire soon afterwards ;)
My prediction!
I just saw this vid of Bolt's heat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdnuzTzDI0s
Like Uh-no-mate just said, Bolt wasn't trying--in fact, all it looked like he was trying to do was to get his start angles correct.
Which, I must say, it looks like he did PERFECTLY. The only reason it wasn't an unbelievable start was because he wasn't applying as much force as he needs to. Believe me, he is in shape to apply a lot more.
That was actually a beautiful start. I am blown away. If he had been actually TRYING on that start, it would have been one of the best he has ever done. It looks like he has been studying tape of Powell, and it's a good thing, because he can't afford a start deficit like he had at trials.
That was not just "not horrible", that was AWESOME, IMHO.
But I will stick with my prediction. I still think that when the chips will be down, Blake will be better.

Imo I thought this too actually. I actually thought he had a really good start and good race but looking at the time it was medicore. The reason I said it looked bad was because he never really shut it off but I did remember thinking instead of going flat out for 60m and shutting it off it seemed more like it was more evenly spread throughout the race and this caused it to look bad. It just never really looked like he shut it down. But I have to disagree with you, I think Bolt will take it. No question.
Gay looked to have had a longer, more powerful start as well, from what I can tell from this poor-quality TV capture vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFf56ctqjt8
That's nothing but good right there. I'm feeling pretty good about my prediction of a 0.06 improvement for him over his adjusted SB.
I can't get over how easy Bolt's heat looked. I mean, come on, the guy was JOGGING a 10-flat. How the F is that possible?
Even if he gets beaten here, for me, there remains no doubt whatsoever that he is the fastest 100m sprinter of all-time, surpassing everybody including Hayes.
As fast as everybody has been, there has been NOBODY who has been able to jog, from start to finish, a 10-flat. Not even Powell--although he can jog the last 30m, he still needs to put in some effort in the first 70m to get a 10-flat.
IMHO, if Bolt doesn't win here, he has nobody to blame but himself. I wouldn't accept even injury as an excuse, because one can greatly minimize the chance and severity of injury with appropriate training and discipline. His injuries would come from trying to do too much, too quickly, to make up for time lost to partying. Even back and foot injuries can be avoided or minimized by training smartly, periodizing, building properly.
The good thing is that he has used absolutely no energy as of yet, with no chance of injuring himself. He will very likely cruise into the final having had no more stress than someone who goes for a brisk walk in the park.
Unbelievable.
I agree, he NEVER went even remotely hard in that race.
He effing JOGGED it from start to finish!
I remember having seen him go reasonably hard before in the first 20m and then cruise the last 80m, but I never remember seeing him having ambled out of the blocks and jogged an entire race.
You want to talk relaxed? He looked BORED! Can you imagine running a 10.0x and finding it boring? I know Blake and Powell had easy races, too, but come on. If it were practice, Bolt could run that race x100 repeats with no diminution in performance.
WTF his energy systems? Bolt, the only guy who runs an aerobic 10.0x from the blocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Creatine phosphate? What's that?
WHEN will he switch to the 400 and crush the WR already? OMG
I didn't get the impression that Bolt was quite as relaxed as in Berlin or Beijing. Looked about as easy as Blake, but I just don't think we're going to see a 9.5x tomorrow. I'm thinking 9.6x most likely.
I think we'll find out a lot about Bolt's fitness in the semi-final. He drew a heat with Ryan Bailey, who is likely to gun it wire-to-wire. We'll see a 9.8 from Bolt in the semi, maybe even a high 9.7.
Gay and Blake are in the third heat, and Gatlin and Powell are in the first heat. I expect they'll all post 9.9x times. I don't see them racing too hard before the final.
Should be a fun one.
BOlt did not look like is in WR shape, The Semi he will have to display something better. This final should be super close and unfold just like the women final
Powell third in his semi in 9.94!
Will have to wait to see if he gets in on time.
Gatlin just crushed the semis, 9.82. Powell will have to get ^in on time (9.9x)
bolt just jogged a 9.87
Martina in the final with a 9.91 (+0.7)
Gatlin crushes a 9.82 (+0.7), which is an adjusted 9.85, which is around .03 better than his previous SB
OMG he could medal if he can produce in the final
I'm predicting Gatlin for Silver.
Not a great time for Thompson, looks like he won't be in the final.
Chambers definitely won't advance, I'm sure a lot of people are happy.
Good thing Bolt didn't false-start!
Gemili just looks happy to be there, good for him!
