I think I would plan to charge the chimp. The psychology of the attack would give me an additional edge.
Again the task is to identify the weapon that gives a man a 50% chance to beat the chimp.
You can plan all you want however you'd be watching the plan disappear before your eyes as he squeezed the life out of you.
Africans kill chimps all the time with machetes, so I think that gives us too much of an edge (literally). A nice moderate size knife would probably make it even, assuming you knew how to use it.

True they usually are smaller but one of the two that escaped was reported to be 170 lbsA Bowie knife - I thinks lets the chimp too close.(maybe it was fat and slow for a chimp)
