Rupp just dissed A. Bum

I thought it was cool to see. Looks like he didn't see the hand but if he did, I like that he has some bite.

Um, isn't the guy in this picture a little tougher and a little more successful than Rupp? (Since you probably don't know, that's a guy called Brimin Kipruto. He runs the steeplechase. He has several Olympic and WC medals.)

Lots of room to be halfway sportsmanlike after a prelim. Looks like Salazar is teaching Rupp a lot about life as well as thyroid medication.

I like Rupp more after this move. Have any of you that are dissing Rupp actually raced semi competitively? It's the prelim, so there's still one more race left & Rupp has to see Bum as someone who could take his spot. In other words they ain't friends right now. I bet after the 5k final, Rupp shakes his hand.

of course he will shake bumbi's hand after the final IF HE KICKS HIS ASS in the final. Yeah, THEN he will be a great sport and shake anyone's hand. But if somehow how gets dusted, he won't be interested in shaking anyone's hand.

And he saw bumbi moving towards him but looked away. Purposefully and clearly, with a very weak pretend move of "oh, I didn't see you." Total douche move. Bumbi's lean at the tape in a prelim was a little douchy, but Rupp's move was douchier. Absolutely.

And all the tough guys saying: 'aarrgh, you need that killer instinct. Rupp showed he's a killer! YEAAH!!" What nonsense. What would have been classier AND tougher would be to congratulate bumbi, but with a big smile basically saying: ' yes, good job, but enjoy it now, because it won't happen in the final. ' You don't say it, but you don't act like you don't even care that he nipped you at the line, because you SHOULDN'T care.

Rupp is a douche and that's why people don't like him. Always has been, always will be, no matter how fast he runs. After the 10k final he tried to ignore Teg, but Teg came over to force a handshake and hug.

Imagine Lagat pulling a stunt like that??? Not in a million years. Remember him hugging El G after El G outkicked him for gold? Yeah, but Lagat does not have the killer instinct, huh? Puh-leeeze.

There are cool/classy athletes in this sport, and then there are the douches. Let's start a list:

King Douche: Rupp.

Others: Webb (headcase), Merga (enough with the pushing), Wariner (crybaby, not good sport),.........???

Classy/Cool: (could be either, not necessarily both)-

Lagat, Teg, Ritz, Symmonds, KD, Bekele (most E. Africans), Hall, Sol (well, until some shit he did last year), and many many more.

Like others have said, I am not sure Galen saw Bumbi extend his hand. That being said, Galen did appear a little angry at the finish. Did anyone else see him throw a shoulder into another runner (I think it was Dunbar) as he was waling off the track? Galen's body language suggested he was kinda pissed which is really stupid. Yeah, maybe Bumbi shouldn't have leaned but if Rupp were more secure he would have simply let up the last 10m knowing full well he 1) qualified for the final 2) will likely make the team barring some sort of disaster (fall, shoe comes off, sky high pollen count, getting nailed from behind, etc.) in the final. I think Galen's demeanor at the end of the race showed a lack of character / maturity despite Bumbi's lean.

Bumby went out of his way in an obvious attempt to show-up Rupp. I've been involved with the sport in one capacity or another for over three decades, and I have never seen an athlete in a 5,000m prelim leanatthefinishline in order to actually win the heat. Why would you do that? Are they now using lane assignments in the 5k?

It was a childish move by Bumby.

that's just the thing. if bumbi's lean did actually annoy rupp, i think it served a good purpose. any sort of rattling or annoyance can only serve to help him and shake rupp. it's not gonna make bumbi faster than rupp, but maybe it will now make rupp pick up the pace earlier which will serve bumbi better... bumbi said he can keep up with his teammate lomong on strength workouts but not so much the speed ones.

in any case, i think winning the heat and annoying rupp does serve a purpose if only a minor one. but minor things are the life of a distance runner. they add up

I think it was hilarious that Bumbi was on Rupp's inside at the top of the straight, and Rupp kept pushing, glance inside to see where Bumbi was, and then gets passed on the outside at the line! That must have pissed Galen off, since he probably felt like an amateur getting duped. Will the mind games work again? We'll see.

Go watch the "tape" again. He was tired, and focused on getting to his sweats. This semi was nothing to him, he was focused on what was next in his day - get off track, get to sweats, check in with coach, treatment etc.

You idiots have projected your own shitt into something you saw in a rectangle - you could not see the whole matrix of people walking around, who he might have been looking for etc.

His last race at Hayward was a final, followed by a 20 minute lap of honor with the gang who made the Oly's in teh 10, so Rupp was looking to get through the maze of people and find the exit and get to his warm down / check in with his coach.

It's just a semi so it doesn't really matter who won. So why should Rupp be a poor sport? Bumbi won't even be near Rupp in the finals so good for him for winning a semi.[quote]T&F humblebrags wrote:

I was thinking this from page one, maybe he is like Donald Trump and just doesn't shake hands. Seriously, it might be something he just doesn't do. After the Solininsky 26:59 Rupp makes a point of walking over to Solinsky and giving him a (very) brief hand shake or even 'five'. He just seems awkward. If he is just socially uncomfortable this whole debate is for nothing.
