Why does everyone keep saying things like "spoiled brat" and "cry me a river"? Has anyone even suggested, much less provided evidence, that Rogers complained at all? Only a poster here complained. Stop insulting Rogers unless you have some evidence to base it on.

Grumpus, you are correct. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Natosha, nor her coach, are complaining about anything. They are thrilled with her progression. All this crap makes it sound like they are complaining - NO COMPLAINTS from Natosha or McRaven (her coach). Drop it guys.
If she lost out because of the opposition's team tactics then it's good that she's not going to London. Or are you somehow under the impression that the Ethiopians and Kenyans don't run tactically?

There shouldn't be team tactics at the Olympic Trials.
When it comes down to it, if Shalane Flanagan was Notosha Rogers' teammate, then Rogers would be an Olympian. How is that fair?
And again, I'm not arguing at all that Uhl shouldn't be on the team. She's a great runner and should be going to London as well. But Rogers should go over Janet Cherobon-Bawcom and the Flanagan/Uhl tactics definitely impeded that. Uhl didn't need it to be a slow race to beat Cherobon-Bawcom.
It's a feaking race, strategy, tactics, it's not a time trial!

They went from running mid 70's to 80+. The slower pace also caused some contact which left Notosha Rogers on the ground and sprinting to catch back up.
She only finished 14 seconds off the "A" standard and that's falling down and going out in a 16:16 for the first 5k. A more even first 5k and no fall and she's got 31:45. Those who didn't need the "A" worked together to make sure no one else got it and now Rogers isn't an Olympian. You shouldn't get an advantage in an OT race because your teammate happens to be one of the best runners in the World.
It's dumb too because in the end she didn't even save Uhl the spot, but gave it to Janet Cherobon-Bawcom back in 7th place.
I agree with this completely, and feel Shalane should be DQ'd from competing for this year due to this.
Also it points out the major problem of picking teams by politics, i.e. arbitrary times, vs their 1-2-3 placings at the trials. The placings should be the ONLY criteria for making the team.
Times are fine for qualification for the trials, and should be the only criteria for qualifying for the trials - never politics. But for making the team, in the single event, the 1-2-3 placings need to be the ONLY criteria. The IAAF needs to consider this seriously and make sure the A standards are not to stringent for the competitors, especially the women, who were not allowed to compete for many years, and only in recent years have this opportunity - so there needs to be a lot of concessions for them and major back bending to make sure no one is left of teams who DESERVES TO BE THERE!
She should have tied her shoes better. I learned how to tie a double know in the first grade. She didn't make the team. The clock does not lie.

Rogers PR'd by a minute at NCAAs and 40 seconds here. To go out and try and run the "A" alone would have been suicidal. She had to stay with the pack and hope it was fast enough so she could close hard and get it. It almost was.
I don't know if I blame Flanagan, but she definitely didn't do Rogers any favors and Rogers should be going over Cherono. The girl is ridiculous. She goes out and just races. She doesn't worry about the pace or the splits (hence a 5:04 first mile at NCAAs) she just runs hard and runs to win. If she was going I'd bet anything she'd be the top American in London and give us a show doing it. With the Kenyan/Ethiopian dominance, she's a very long way from a medal threat, but I bet she would turn some heads.

I noticed this too. Wake up posters. She never complained.
She didn't have to run the A by herself. She need to go through the field and find 3 or 4 other ladies who also wanted to give it a whirl. They actually did ok at the start before slowing down on the 3rd lap (before Shalane went to the front. Granted when the A standard is close to your 5k pace doing this probably doesn't seem like a very useful exercise.

Rogers did not get hosed or "screwed over". Her situation sucks, but with in the parameter of the rules which she knew, it is what it is.
So its cool that many of you are defending a CO girl, but no need realy.
