Got to go with small, efficient and American. Foreign cars just plain SUCK and theres nothing foreign about us runners.
Therefore the Chevy Cavilier.

Yeah, thats all american. Small and efficient? Give me a break! Foreign cars don't break down like American cars. If you were making an analogy about US runners though, you hit the nail on the head. Clunky, often injured and then don't run for shit after 5 years. Time to get a new one.
I am on my second Cavalier. This one now has a missing rear window for the past month. It is 10 years old and was never nice enough to worry about getting dirty. I drive all over the place and it has only broken down once. My last one also left me stranded once. I also had a Chevette before that which never left me stranded. That would be three Chevy's in 15 yeasrs, two break downs. Also the breeze is great with no back window.

Honda Civic - DX model
* high mileage (35-40 mpg)
* very reliable
* low maintenance
* cheap ($13,010 for a new 2004 model)
Buying a brand new economy car is a ridiculous waste of money. I'll stick with my '87 Taurus that I bought for $500. It's never given me any problems while I've owned it, and if it did, I could get replacement parts for pennies at a junk yard. It also gets about 24mpg city and 31 highway and is better than a Civic in just about every way.
An '88 lincoln town car.
Typical white trash noveau riche response..."which costs more?"
Your Hummer is the ultimate white trash wet dream. A vehicle with absolutely no function whatsoever. Its crap offroad, crap around town and crap on the highway.
My Jeep can go places that your overweight, underpowered, clunker couldn't dream of going.
As for the mobile home comment, I won't comment other than to say that the Jeep takes up just one spot in my 3 car garage.
2004 Subaru Forrster Turbo...
Practical, great for taking to the trails and/or to a race. Can sleep in it if you have to. Gets great milage (like a long-distance runner), and because it's a turbo, has a little extra kick (like a middle-distance runner).
Hoovis
howabout a '71 big block corvette?
Civic with a sun roof...super good gas mileage, easy to drive and park, low maintenance, etc.
And if I ever get rich which I won't cause I'm a runner I would go with the Toyota ForeRunner with sun roof.
Gotta go with the Miata posters. I have a '92 in yellow. Very efficient, quick, nimble, light, and responsive. Goes fast and long on very little fuel. Besides, runners tend to be thin, and the car fits them well. It almost feels like I "wear" my Miata rather than drive it. OTOH, I like my Subaru Forester. Great car for the winter and back roads. Sure footed, resonably efficient (I get 28 mpg highway), and plenty of space to throw in gear.
Miata for the road racer, Forester for the trail runner.

It also helps break the stereotype that runners give a fu@k about the environment, breathing clean air or ending our dependence on foreign oil.
Good job asshole!

On another note, I would say the best runner's car is probably a Miata, because:
1. It's small and light
2. It always does well in a race
3. In the summer, you can put down/take off the top, andyou can put a hardtop on for winter
4. And the biggest similarity between a Miata and a runner is that whenever an inbred hick sees one, he gets on uncontrollable urge to call it gay.
#4 is exactly right. Anytime some idiot around here (I live in the South) tells me a Miata is gay, I ask them if they have ever driven one. No one that thinks it's gay ever has. On the other hand, I've never met anyone who has driven one that doesn't love the darn things. I have and I do.
I couldn't agree more! I drive a 01 miata and an 02 3 series and i have much more fun tooling around in the miata than i do the 3. Its just a fun car to drive all around.
Miata's aren't that great sorry to say I have driven quite a few (90 93 95 01) and none of them have been as fast or as nice as AN '89 JEEP CHEROKEE with 334,000+ miles on it that has only broken down when the freeze plugs were blown in it and there was absolutely no coolant in the engine block still ran a goo 10 miles before it stopped running becuase it over heated, It's still running strong at 334,000 and you can fit a futon mattress pad in the back with the seats down and it's quite nice to slee in. Economical (20+ mpg), goes anywhere, and runs FOREVER like most of us like to think of ourselves.... GOTTA GO JEEP
buying a brand new car of any sort is nothing more than a self-righteous status symbol. a car depreciates the moment you drive it off the lot. anyone with any sense buys used cars.

Soccer Dad? Trend whore? Midlife crisis? Check, check, and Check.
Live without a car, that is smart...give the earth a break...that is smart.
