7 second PR for Rupp. You cannot ask for more, sure- 2 secs behind Mo, but if it is a true run race at the OG (ie sub 13:00), 2 secs behind Mo will put him in with a shout of a medal which will be an incredible achievement.

Rupp lost to Farah and a guy who has run 12:53 indoors! Bekele isn't as fit as Rupp is now in the 5k, and you don't get 10k fitness in a month. A silver in the 10k looks more probable than possible. We'll see.

Yes, there are at least two more levels above where Rupp is. The Mo/Sileshi Sihine/Tadesse level and the Bekele, Geb, Komen level

Yes I did, and I saw Bekele get his a** handed to him over the last 600m by the running elf. Less than 2 laps to go Rupp was behind Bekele. At the finish Rupp was 15m ahead of him. Do the math.

Bekele 2012 is not the same as Bekele 2008.

What a race by Rupp he finally figured out how to kick off a fast pace! May be he does actually have an outside shot at a medal, we'll see in a couple of months I guess.

On another note, what the hell is wrong with Jerry's kids (at least the guys)?!?!? After a stellar 2010, they all look horrible with the exception of Jager who is running in what is clearly the weakest distance event in the US.

Solinsky is out, possibly forever. Bairu has looked horrible for a while now. Teg is also not running well and Lomong did not run well today either. Saladbar maybe an asshat but he is looking like a superior coach right about now.

For the sake of US distance running I hope Jerry's boys get their sh*t together for the trials and the Games....

I'd say a few things...

Rupp is a year away from being at Farah's level.

Rupp is also still training through to the trials and the Games. So, he likely didn't taper much for this. Farah, however is still a bit better.

BUT, Rupp has continued to make steady progress each year.

If he continues to step up in the next 3 years he'll catch some medals...hopefully he'll be healthy enough to catch the 2016 games as an even better level.

However, he may still hit it this year.

Is this the first sub-13 by US athlete on US soil? Or has Lagat run sub-13 in the US?....because I am pretty sure all the other US athletes that have gone under 13 all did so in Europe.

Regardless, congrats to Rupp for finally getting the 13 minute monkey off his back.
