Good call. If Webb had been able to run 1:47, he undoubtedly would have "blasted away" the winner, who ran 1:46.

I don't know... 1:51 still?! I think without 1:49.0 there is little hope. I mean, 1:53 or something could be the closing 800m at the trials!
Maybe Webb is deliberately running slower to embarrass letsrun posters later when he runs 3:32 at the trials

If I remember correctly, peaking for an event like the 800m, or something involving a significant percentage of anaerobic conditioning, can happen very quickly once that cycle of peaking has begun. Don't forget- we don't know what kind of training Webb has been doing. If Webb has been doing 800m workouts for the past couple months, then yeah, he's in trouble. However, if he's been doing aerobic threshold and VO2 max workouts, his finishing speed or 800m anaerobic fitness isn't going to be the thing that gains from that immediately. When he and Vig are ready, Webb will probably be able to take 2-3 seconds off his current 800m season best in a little under 2 weeks. So being in 1:47 shape by the end of June I don't think is of worry or concern right now for Webb and Vig- I think keeping Webb healthy but improving at a rate that will put him in contention to make the team without having to go all out and risk re-injuring himself with crazy training that maybe his body isn't ready for.

I was on and off traning for a few years, then had one year with training 5 times a week, mainly threshold intervals. Little speedwork and little anaerobic work. I ran 1.51 come season. Webb has had more competitions and more speedwork than me, he should have been able to run much faster at this time.
I don't really get why people are still talking about Webb. He's been washed up for years now, and even at his best showed that he was talented but inconsistent and never stepped it up when he needed to. Looking at his performances through the years, even for one who doesn't presume to be anywhere close to that ability level, I think it's evident that he probably never figured out how to train all that effectively. Also, coming from northern virginia and having listened to him on several occasions in speeches and interviews, he frankly doesn't come across as the brightest individual. I know that's somewhat of a harsh, unwarranted low blow, but I do think that it speaks to his ability to train and race intelligently. He has too much machismo and not enough patience.
does anyone else think andrews looked like he was out for a jog with a wife beater on?

and i hope webb gets it together too. this year might be unrealistic, but that dude is too talented and not old enough yet.
