she's head and shoulders above the rest of the girls' team, she should be training with the boys team. my high school team, almost the entire program was integrated. it gave almost everyone workout partners with a very close fitness level instead of forcing our tiny girls team to just run with the closest teammates who could have 30 second gaps in 5k prs.

Oh wait, I didn't say anything about her age group record. Please tell me if people were not saying exactly the same things you just said about Cain about Hasey. Guess what, people have been saying exactly the same things about many young girl hs runners every few years. Some have turned out very well like Decker, though she spent as much time injured as healthy and you could make a good argument that some of that was due to focusing on speed in her early years and not aerobic fitness. Most have obtained far less success. Speaking of success, I don't think most people see Hasey as a sure world class runner now but if you had listened to the hype when she was in hs you would have thought she would certainly be on the 2012 team if not ready to take on the world. Now it would be quite an accomplishment just for her to get an A oly standard.
That does not make her a bad runner or a failure, but you do no favors annoiting a 15 yo girl the "next Decker". Chances are you are wrong but no one knows right now and thinking you do is a pointless exercise.

Barring injury, I dont see why she cant run 9:40 3200m next year. I havent seen a HS track meet in years, but since I live close to her hometown, Im actually motivated to watch her run.
I heard from " a coach" who knows the situation well. sounds like its being overblown on this website, more like she just wants to train with people who will challenge her in practice
there are many ways to get her to be challenged in practice. She could run 400s at mile pace while some do 200s or 300s at 800 pace etc... Its got to be more than that. But the problem I have as a HS coach is Should a parent dictate who coaches their child? The fact that she still wears a Bronxville uniform and competes for her HS when she could just be doing open meets unattached is a testament to the Bronxville district the AD and all the coaches involved. Let's hope she continues to improve and let's hope Jim Mitchell continues his magic at the school.
Time will tell if she will regret leaving her team to basically run alone.
I blame the athletic director and school admins for allowing a girl to basically run on the boys team. Educationally this is not the best decision by what by all accounts is one of the best public schools in the country. If she can't follow the rules of a renowned and respected HS coach than she should go run on a club team.
One of the most important aspects of school and being on a team is learning social skills and to sacrifice for your team. It's developing what can be lifelong friendships and learning important life lessons. What is miss Cain learning from this experience?
This is not a situation where she left some regular old track team. She left a team that has averaged under 9:20 for the 4x8 for 30 YEARS. She left a team that ran 8:49.85 and WON THE NATIONAL TITLE LAST YEAR with three freshman and a sophomore. This team would have had a chance to break the national record this year - together. She left a coach that helped her run 4:17 1500m as a freshman. She left a coach that is respected by everyone as an outstanding educator, gentleman, and motivator.
She'll have her whole adult life to run for herself. She should be running for her team right now. What college coach would want her if she has no concern for anyone but herself? Adults have failed this kid right now. I pray she returns to her team in the future.
From accounts, it was very windy, so talk of mid-4:teens/4:30's is not irresponsible. It will be interesting to see what Chapus comes up with at Payton.
Mary is only 15 . . . but. it is this board that seems to be filled with little girls. Get over it! She is a young girl. Things changed. Things may change again in the future. We all need to nurture and support this talent in any way we can.
Bottom line: If you are a fan, root for any athlete you like. If you are a parent, worry about your own child. If you are a coach, coach YOUR kids. To many busybody's and and know it all on LR.

Appreciating a great athlete no matter what the age is perfectly OK. Whats weird is people worrying so much about whats going on behind the scenes. Everybody loves reality TV.
