New Beer Mile WR!!!!!!

Yeah, seems tossing bottles into the bin is a lousy way of verifying completeness of drinkiness since the record bottles get mixed in with the rest and the backwash is spilled in the bin. Shouldn't each competitor pass off to a judge who raises a flag or something?

Bottle records and Can records are different and there are records for each style of container as well as company.

They start on the mile start line, it is definitely 1609m.

If you inspect the bottles, you will find a lot of beer still in the bottles.

chris parr of gateshead harriers, uk. is the official world record holder of the 'chunder mile' at 5.08. which is 1609m not 1600 and each pint is the full 568ml. think he'd already had 3 or 4 pints and a burger immediately before the race and only decided to run last minute with no warm up and in someone else's gear/trainers. he ran a 3.42 1500m just a few days later.

The debate over this new WR includes:

1.)There was foam left

2.)He didnt tip the bottle over

3.)only cans are allowed

4.)He didnt run a full mile, only 1600m

Arguments for the Debate:

1.) The rules say nothing about drinking left over foam

2.) The rules do not indicate that you have to tip over the can/bottle to show that it is empty

3.) The rules clearly indicate you may use bottles so long as they are 12oz

4.) Upon further review of the clip, the competitors clearly start the race 9 meters before the finish line.

this should be recorded as the new WR Beer mile

You can definitely use bottles. The current WR was done with bottles.

As for not proving that he finished it - yeah, that's a problem. I would have liked to see the bottle go vertical for proof. Even if not above his head, at least vertically above his mouth to prove there was no more liquid. There is going to be foam any time you drink this fast, I think you have to forgive a little foam as long as the bottle is vertical and the liquid is gone.

But all in all - VERY IMPRESSIVE.

I have no respect for that. Other than an accurate title 'Beer' as in singular, as in cumulative drinks was about 1 UK pint.

Bottles 2, 3, 4 are thrown away after a few chugs and 40% of the drink left in foam form. 4 x330ml bottles full of foam or 4 x568ml UK Pints. Enough said.

So to compare to the 5m08.7sec genuine world record for the Chunder Mile, if he then had another 3 full pints I'd have a glimmer of respect. Not even worth a sub-6 min.

Slander on the term Beer Mile World Record offends me so much that I do feel I need a comeback at some point...

Not sure if anyone listens to the 3 non joggers podcast, but they have steve edwards, shalane's husband from time to time. on a recent episode with adam goucher, edwards claims to running 4:50's in the beer mile in the same day he PR'd in the 800 in college (~1:50/51). Said he spiked up for the effort and that there were plenty of witnesses, including shalane. while maybe not official, very impressive!

They should use pint glasses. Pour the bottle/ can in to the glasses and line them up. No question then?

It doesn't matter, the World Series along with every other World championship playing in America is in a sport where US citizenship is not required, Any nationality can participate for a MLB,NHL,NBA,NFL team.

The exact same point is hammered home for beer miles, that really only prove you're really good with running a short distance with 4 pints of liquid in your system.

I'll be impressed when they start doing beer 10ks rather than miles.
