3:54 Webb? Really?

I have been saying this for years but I really believe he has a genetic thing that caused him to mature early. This meant in high school he was much more like a college runner and in his early pro days he was more like a mature pro. Now he is on his down hill fall and trying to hold on.

Did he look relaxed?

He seems to look relaxed in the 1500. You have to think he was just trying to maintain pace in the last 300 here, or he really is finished.

Nah, it was worth more like a 3:54 1500, because it WAS a 1500.

Definitely agree there. And, the way he was pushing himself as a youngster in swimming and running, plus his genetics accelerated his maturity.

And some kids do bald early, but that could just be part of the early maturing Alan Webb...

He actually looked pretty relaxed, most likely it is just a jog for him.

No matter what, he'll always be an Olympian, champion, record-holder and legend.

I agree. The video of him breaking Jim Ryun's record is one of the best in american track and field history.

And the announcer's call on that last lap, and Webb's reaction when he was told he broke the record, was priceless. And of course, the congragulatory lap holding hands with El G. Just amazing.

Haven't we been asking if he looked relaxed for a while? He really should go back to Salazar and develop himself in the 5k and 10k, I'm not sure why he is so emotionally attached to the 1500.

Youre really not sure why he would be so emotionally attached to the 1500? Really???

Also, why does everyone think he should move up to the 5k or 10k? His 3:54 isn't going to be any better there. Bekele is a 3:32 runner at the slowest. Webb would have to get into his best 1500m shape to even be a factor in the 5k or 10k.

People, talent does NOT go away. Webb will be just fine, stop worrying about it.

It is like that only in that a 3:54m is just about as poor as a 4:17 mile was for Ryun. Key differences are that Ryun was still only 25 leading up to Munich, and would have been 24 at this time of the year. He also already had an Olympic Silver medal from '68. He also had taken about a year off from training in 1971 and was 35 pounds overweight at 195.
