I actually think he will do ok. He was able to stay up
pretty well through the swim & bike portions for his first
go at the Olympic distance. I paid a goodly amount of funds
to fly to Biel, Switzerland for a 100k only to drop out
at 30 miles with an achilles injury. Stuff happens. He will
re-group and move on.
Really not the greatest of splits for a draft legal race unless the conditions were really junk which it doesn't look like they were. Also, whoever was going on about his transition splits, they were solid, not spectacular. Just my 2 cents

The important point was whether his performance qualified him for the Lithuanian Olympic team.

Maybe he thought it was a biathlon and did a 6km jog warm down. Or perhaps he stopped at a drink station for some breast milk from mummy and couldn't break himself away from her booby.

Why would he have completed the swim and bike if he thought it was a biathlon? Neither of those events are part of the biathlon.

How do you think LV would do in a biathalon, I mean, he's got the leg strength to power through the xc skiing, but his mad flow would get in the way while he's shooting.
It is true that Lukas disappointed many guys with his Oregon affair, but let's be realistic as far as his DNF is concerned.
DNFing is not the end of someone's career!
Let's give the young man some benefit of doubt and let's encourage him.
He is young and he made his choice based on what he believes he could do.
If we look at Triathlon, Senior triathlon is like a marathon while Junior one is like a half marathon.
Many marathoners fail in their debut, but that does not translate to a total career failure.

How'd he get a stress fracture so quickly after leaving Oregon? Makes me wonder if he left because he didn't like the training program? Maybe thought he'd would have been doing better with more miles. Then he gets on his own and over-does it (very quickly) and gets injured.
Lucas had a great performance and was injured...being a teenager and in 3rd place going into the run in a Sr event is incredible...he is by far the best runner in the bunch...if he wasn't injured he may have won it. The guy is a beast.

My reading of the statement that was released was that his injury would be evaluated once he returned to Colorado - so I don't think it was actually 100% established that he had a stress fracture, even though maybe the athlete thought he did from his symptoms? I'm sure his coaches would not have let him participate if he had a known stress fracture before the event, and whatever pain he experienced during the race would have to be confirmed as a fracture with MRI or xray or whatever. That's how I read it anyway.
