If Sage C runs 2:15 and is best is just breaking 2:17, can we now say that he should run 2:11? Why? Maybe he's a 2:15 marathoner at best as we all have different abilities, right?
I know a guy who ran 2:22 and trained his butt off. Why didn't he break 2:20? If he popped a 2:17 can we then say he's going to run 2:12 or so?
You nor I know what's going to happen for sure but I would bet on Nick to beat him. Beating him in the past has nothing to do with it as they are suppose to be running for a spot on the team and if Morgan runs 2:14 how is he going to make the team and beat Nick unless he has an awful day?

False. Eggleston did run for Hansons IN MICHIGAN. and JUSTIN YOUNG did too. Of course there is a (younger) Tim Young on the team currently. This is how rumors (like most claims made in this thread) spread. Do a little research next time to support your statements.

Hell, Don Johns was faster going into his trials race in Columbus and there was no Ryan Hall back then or even one of the top 3 who had finished well in NY, let alone won as Meb did. Why is that? Probably all true, but you still have to try and hope for the best. No one really knows but in reality, 2 of the top 3 spots are probably already taken. If Hall doesn't finish in the top 3 I will never say there's a sure thing again.

Hey man you never know, a 2:13:35 could very well beat Meb. Nate m'fckn' Jenkins beat Meb in the last trials with a 2:14! Meb may not be injured this time, but he did miss a critical 3 weeks of training due to a foot infection caused by a breathe rite strip (lame). Props for him trying to come back from NYC, but IMO he could just DNF - he has nothing left to prove anymore in the marathon.Its good for the sport that we have the internet now and know about the 2:15 guys. What could you possibly have against that? Jealous much? BTW if you weren't an old bone head (and if you knew anything about what its like to actually run close to what these guys run) you'd know that a 2:13:35 will probably be within 2:30 min of 3rd place AND will be in the $$$$ within the top 8. Its not the critic who counts...

Never say never about who beats who at the trials. Guys who would pull out from another race will start because it is the trials and the reality is a 2:15 guy on a great day can do a whole lot of damage by running smart and having a day while others struggle and others will struggle. We don't know who is hurt, who is going to get sick, who is so worked up they won't race well.
Just ask me or Trent Briney. You show up on the day and you beat guys. NO ONE would pick me over Meb, Abdi, Gilmore, Culpepper, Rohat, Fasil, at the last trials. The would be stupid to but I ran well and they had issues. Four years later I have had my issues and I'm not even in the race.
Now making the team is another thing. Very tough for a guy in that second tier. It happens, but you need to jump to the first tier. Trent came very very close. Conover did it, Pfitz did it. But it is hard. When you are a 2:15 guy you can train for 2:12/2;13 and a good cycle will get you that type of effort. I was 2:15:28 on a downhill perfectly fast course. I ran 2:14:56 on the rolling trials course. would have been 2:12 high on the course I debuted on, probably 2:13 at Chicago or the women's trials course at Boston. So I ran much better. But jumping to 2:09 to 2:11 which is the type of effort it takes to grab 3rd? That is tough. Hall, Meb, Abdi, Gotcher, Hartmann, ritz, Nick have run 2:11 or better. Some of them will run like shit for sure, but half will run at least ok. Thing is if meb and hall run ok and hartmann or gotcher goes for a solid PB then it takes sub 2;10 to make the team. So if you are looking for a surprise in the top 5 or 10 look to the hansons and ex-hanson types. Reneu ran a fast half at grandma's. But if you are looking for a surprise on the team look to the half guys or the 2;11/2;12 guys (hartmann,nick, cabada, lehmkuhle, etc..) Now Conover had run only 2:18 but there were extenuating circumstances.
