Forget snow, even rain is a PIA with 2wd. My old pickup was typical 2w/4w, the kind you dont use unless you really need it...Total pain to drive in the wet weather unless you're going in and out of 4w Hi...Every red light....ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

New truck, FT 4wd, I don't even notice if the road is wet.

4wd needed for rain? lol no way. i can drive my 09 corolla in torrwntial rain. obviosusly willl have issues with huge pools and hdroplaning, but so would a 4wd. just comparing cars here not trucks.

seriously 4wd definitely not needed for rain. learn how to drive if you think you need 4wd in rain.

and for most snow use cases, a subaru is simply not necessary. 2wd will work and if it gets real sloppy throw on some chains. a 2wd honda fit with good chains/cables on the front is a better drive than an 4wd impreza with stock tires in 2-6 inches of snow.

What percentage of Subaru owners are gluten intolerant? Has to be pretty high.

Lots of high end pretentious douchemobiles. I wouldn't put a Subaru in that category.

I was so afraid of being called pretentious by the letsrun species that I bought a Camry. I have to confess though, it is the LE.

Whether or not it's a "douchemobile" is going to be a subjective judgment among mostly narrow-minded people. Who cares what another person drives or why?

Objectively, Subaru seems to make a quality product. I didn't read every post in this thread, but I have never actually heard anyone complain about a Subaru they've owned. I drove a Forester for several years and it was a great car. Practical, powerful enough for my purposes, got around great in the snow and mud. The only reason I didn't keep it was because I wanted a truck. If Subaru ever makes a truck - or even brings back the Baja - I would definitely take a look.

Common, you have a computer and live in 2017; is it really that hard to find out facts?

Musk purchased a McLaren in the 90s and crashed it in 2000(3 years before Tesla was even founded). He hasn't owned one since, he has owned other cars like BMWs and Audis, but as of lately he only drives Teslas. Imagine if the CEO of Ferrari drove a Lamborghini to work?

Neither.I worked at a Subaru dealer and while they are better than American cars, they are not as reliable as Toyotas or Nissans. As well, the dealer network is not as large (this matters if you do lots of road trips) and I found that some dealers were good and others were, uh, not good. Your average shade tree mechanic will not be qualified to work on the AWD system either. Toyota, and to a lesser degree, Nissan run very tight dealer networks and are very picky. Subaru didn't seem to in my opinion but this is just an observation.They are hardly pretentious though. The people who drove them tended to be boring academics or families who had cabins where it snows. Of course, some "outdoor types" drove them too.They are boring as f**k but I can't say I hate them. I drove an Outback as a company car for a winter and man that thing would go ANYWHERE. 2 foot snow drifts....no problem. Seriously good in the muck.

The car is the definition of practical, and in no way pretenious.

The biggest issue is Subaru's boxer engines. They're just plain not efficient in comparison to the new engines from Mazda, Toyota or Honda and Subaru has been reusing the same base engine for years.

Ideally, they release a 1.6T to replace the aging 2.5 along with a 1.4T to replace their 2.0. The Turbos especially help at altitude (where the new CR-V is awesome). Or hell, even a new 2.5 that has an additional 10-15 HP/Torque would be nice.

That, and until the last year or two, the fit and finish in the Subaru's have been lacking.

Winter tires are as important or more than the car...

Google subaru oil burning. This was a major problem people found only AFTER they bought the car w/ no help from the company. It had something to do w/ the boxster engine.
