Yeah, just think about it this way, though. Derrick was better than Bumbi when Derrick was a freshman and Bumbi was a senior. They raced a few times, and Derrick always beat him. Now, after a solid year of pro training, Bumbi nearly made the world final, beat Derrick at USAs, and has a 13:16 PR. I find it hard to believe that Derrick won't jump right back up there with or beyond him once he graduates.
They raced 3 times while Bumbi was in college. Derrick beat Bumbi at NCAA Cross Nationals in 2008 and 2009, and Bumbi beat Derrick in the NCAA 5K in 2010.
Seems like Derrick is more of the strength runner (good 10K and up future), and Bumbi's got a little more speed for his 5K focus.
Still, Derrick finished 7th at NCAA Cross and ran 13:29 as a freshman. Bumbi ran 13:30 in his 4th year and finished 8th in NCAA Cross in his 5th year. Derrick's a monster talent and should have a great pro career.
