That's not an argument that he is doing everything right, it's an argument that he could be one of the best ever if he had a better structure.

impossible to prove if he could be better with different training. I doubt it, personally. But it sounds like that classic american tendency to put some science into the mix rather than a practical sense of what works.
Put another way, look at a guy like Augustine Choge. Guy ran 3:29.47 but hasn't ever medalled at a major track competition. HE could use some help training - working on tactics and peaking and strength through heats and finals.
Kiprop has mastered all these things. He won. Twice. What do you want to mess with that for?
If Asbel doesn't break 1500 or Mile record next year i will be SHOCKED....

Yeah, how dare you bring SCIENCE into the mix. I believe that running around with hand weights and eating pop-tarts for dinner makes me a better runner and no amount of evidence to the contrary is going to get me to change my mind.
quick survey: do hand weights help you run faster? i don't know.
I wouldn't be surprised it this was all a ploy to get stupid people looking for training on the internet to start wasting their time with ill-contrived resistance exercises.

I've argued the point (against the high mileage stuff) too many times to accept this. Right now, there is a thread on here arguing for 100mpw for 800 training, not to mention people who WON'T believe that Dr. Li has Lalang doing 50 mpw for XC.
But 1500m guys towing sleds/tires like 100m sprinters is something I hadn't seen before, and in our program we are going to discuss this. Things like this are the reason to put up with the obnoxious Oregon jerks and not leave permanently like it seems most coaches have.
100mpw for the 800, like Snell?
It looks like those guys had just started to do most of those exercises, because they were so awkward. By contrast, when they were doing the high knees, it was excellent for distance runners, so they had already been doing drills, but the jumps and tires and so forth were new.
WHO'S THE WHITE GUY AT THE BEGINNING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
well i guess they all then get out there in the rain themselves. maybe they were thinking 'shit, i gotta go run in the rain like this fvcking moron.'
either way, they were looking at him like he was a fvcking moron.[/quote]
They're looking at him because he's a half naked white guy. People would always laugh at me when I ran with my shirt off in Kenya.
I worked out on this track for two months this past spring and didn't see anything like this. I did hear athletes say, "and sometimes we do the circuit training", but it was rarely mentioned. My guess is that it's something they do occasionally, in the off-season (this would explain why they look so awkward doing it).

I can see there are a number of white guys in the video, and they all seem to look at the changing white guy too occasionally.
So take it or leave it, the white guy changing might have acted like a moron in Iten standards.
There are many ways you can appear like a moron. For instance if you are using a lot of gadgets like heart monitors, or if you wear things that seem unnecessary in Iten, no doubt you will be a moron!
When you go train in a simple environment like Iten, keeping it simple to blend in is the norm.
The guys in the video are not training to impress anyone, that's the first thing you should put in mind.
Secondly, Iten training is open to anyone who is interested, it doesn't have to be a professional. So the guys who can't do hurdles perfectly, might be just some aspiring villagers.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but I don't see where there is a sense of humor in his comment. Please show me.

Wow, this is some crazy stuff. Running around with a rope and tire attached to you???
Those aren't tires, they're life preservers.
Those Kenyans are looking at that guy thinking, I am going to run on that and be like him?, the Heart rate monitor did not help either. The reason why the guys seems to be out of rythm is because they are starting to do this sort of exercises and they are not trying to be cute. The difference between Kenyans and everyone else is that Kenyans don't pretend, they just do it. Kenyan runners don't do this things so that people on Letsrun would look at it, they do it because they are trying to be better. The most important thing that we need to understand is that Kenyans operate and think totaly different than people in the West think, when we start thinking like Westerners and second guessing ourselves then that will be the beginning of our downfall athletically. This guys are trying to fill their day by doing something fun and different due to the weather conditions. If you are not running as fast as these guys do and you are commenting negatively on it, don't you thing you might be the one doing things wrong?

BUYING A TIRE RIGHT NOW!
OK, I just don't find it funny. You do, and that is good for you.
You are the only one whining about my statement anyway. Good you could resolve it positively. That's the spirit.
