I think the Salazar quote is actually something to the effect of "willing to try anything LEGAL". People being injured and taking forever to recover from surgery does not imply PED use to me. Actually just the opposite, since people using PEDs should be able to quickly regain form and avoid injuries.

Salazar made Amy into a national champion when she had nowhere near the talent of Shalane. He led Goucher to two 3rd place Marathon finishes and a 3rd place World Championship. He got everything he could out of those girls.
Dathan is unfortunately incredibly injury proned, you can't blame Salazar for him getting infections from stitches. Let's wait to see how he does this January.
I think it's more of a Nike forcing Alberto to "trim the fat". Let's face it, Goucher and Begley are older and really stand no chance of ever medaling.

I was just thinking that...if they're taking drugs to improve recovery, their drugs must suck. But I guess people think it's fun to make stupid, reflexive drug-use allegations. I'd love to know what DOESN'T somehow count as indicating doping.
Distance runners get injured. The people here who actually train should understand that. The more you run, the better you can race, but at the same time, the more you run, the more likely you are to get injured. Amy Yoder-Begely spent years being hurt, so it's not like there's some sort of new thing happening all of a sudden. People who've been pregnant get hurt when they try to come back. People get hurt when they're trying to come back from injury too quickly. Is this somehow news to people here? Didn't there use to be actual runner here?

This is letsrun. Drugs will do whatever fits the post.
Great gain in ability in one season? Drugs.
Consistent steady progress from year to year? Progress is "too good" to be real.
Long string of bad performances? Must be suffering from condition due to drug use.
No injuries? Drugs helping recovery.
Injured? Body breaking down due to pushing its limits while using drugs.
Great race? Must have gotten on drugs.
Bad race? Must have gotten off the drugs.
Poor showing at championships due to injury? Must have been caught and told to lay off the drugs.
That's what's so great about "drugs." Any idiot can see any result (or even a lack of results) and fit it to the drug narrative.

Everyone isn't/wasn't on drugs, and when you are super talented and training well, your times will improve. But Salazar, as an athlete, was an outlier in so many ways.
As for his own athletes, he's pushed them through injuries many times. That's a matter of public record. As is the fact that he was injury-prone as a runner but was able to train through them most of the time until his body completely collapsed. That's also unusual.
All I'm saying is that his expectations for his own athletes - when if comes to recovery - may be warped.

So you think Salazar's athletes are taking drugs based on the rumors you've heard of what people used to say about him in the 1970s? And the fact that they've gotten injured?
There's so many GOLD MEDAL distance coaches in the U.S. like Dr Li, Jose Vigil, Cook, etc. Big deal if Amy moves on to greener pastures. Portland sucks, too much rain, too depressing, too many Caucasoid Aboriginal savages, meth addicts, crime.

I think people need to stop and think: Alberto Salazar is a great coach! Just because two people leave his training program does not change that fact.
