Should Centro finish is 5th year of track at U of O????

I hear Jr is mentally already back home in MD checking out grad schools and training with dad. Nothing like Mom's home cooking. Good choice.

There's alot more in store for Centro Jr than just one bronze. Eugene was just a nice moment in his life. It's time for him to say goobye and head for the limelight of New York City or Los Angeles.

The reasons that Centro chose Oregon for his collegiate development are still there, only more so if he intends to run as a pro. I think Centro has made it very clear that he likes his coach, likes the good looking Oregon chicks, and likes the Eugene atmosphere and collegiate life of the University of Oregon. All this adds up to Centro competing one more year as a collegiate at Oregon and then signing a fat Nike contract in June.

Word has it on New Year's Day 2012 it's DC for Matt Jr.

This is easy. Take an insurance policy out for big money based upon future earnings......Run the 5th year for Oregon (that's what Phil Knight probably wants as well). Centro destroyed the field at NCAA's in the 1500 last year. Repeating will be a piece of cake.

Now that he is the American Record holder -- they just need the right picture.

He should stay in school, keep his current situation, but not do the track season -- silly for him to be running NCAAs in an Olympic year, given what he has now accomplished. I kept waiting for the wheels to fall off this year after his long season. Fortunately, they didn't, but trying it 2 years in a row is tempting fate.

Obviously finish the B.A. while he is young. Cut college team participation. He should be coached by Matt, Sr. do workouts between classes. Let agent advise on races and arrange appearance fees and expenses. After completion of B.A. move to Southern California where TV and press exposure is supreme for pro athletes.

I'm sure centro (if he reads these boards) is flattered that everyone telling him to stay in school assumes he will in fact win a NCAA title or 2 or 3 this upcoming year, or that he even makes the Olympic team. The fact of the matter is he stands a lot more to lose than gain by staying in school. It's great to assume the best, but one should prepare for the worst. It doesn't matter if he stays on scholarship to finish his degree (i'm sure he can have his undergrad courses covered by his sponsor in the contract or use his six figure salary). He should come to an agreement with Vin and Powell (which he obviously will. Who is to say his sponsor cant throw some money at both to coach him?) and continue his same training regiment. If after the Olympics he wants to move back to the east coast and train under his father or vig or gags or who ever, than this his decision, and having watched the kids career, it will work.

Also, don't be so certain that nike is the highest bidder. New Balance has his sister as a runner and his father as a coach. They made a big run at Wheating, that nike covered, but who is to say that they wont offer the world to the 1500m bronze medalist. It doesnt have to be in the form of yearly salary, but perhaps a longer contract worth more total dollars, plus bumping up his sister and fathers contract, making it a full family affair. Whatever happens i wish all the best to him.

So he just went pro.

He turned down any money all summer to keep his college eligibility and goes pro now.

Could have picked up some nice cash right after WC's, too.

But he is signing while he has a lot of value.

He can finish school, run the meets he needs to, get paid.
