This is the same message I was gonna write. Uceny has raced in similar fashion most of the year and has found a way to stay out of trouble, then outkick the field in the last 200-300. Well, it works until it doesn't. Today it didn't. Tough break, but this is the key risk to saving it for the kick from a tough position.
Contrast with Rudisha, who breaks to the front and is good enough to hold the lead the whole race. Symmonds and Uceny are apparently using the same race strategy, but you need room to execute this. If you don't have any room, it doesn't matter how fast you could conceivably run.
Re-read my original post please. I never said that Jenny didn't deserve to win but rather I felt Morgan would have been a more deserving winner. These are two different things though admittedly 'deserve' was not the best choice of words there
I guess I like to see consistency trump at all on the big day- someone who had proven their metal throughout the season alas this is not always the case especially in world champs.
I congratulate Jenny on her victory and I hope to see Morgan back to her winning ways again soon

Oh, yeah, that's the problem. I totally noticed how there were no Americans on this thread pointing out that exact distinction.
Considering how soft we are these days on grading trolls I'll give you an 8/10.
Perhaps Uceny lost to Simpson because she is not as accomplished as Simpson. Case in point? Simpson has a Wikipedia page. Uceny doesn't.

I think I'm way more bored with the "troll, x/10" posts than I am with people making threads about controversial topics.
LOL. At least Uceny got up and finished even if last. Unlike a certain Mr.Solinsky who woulda cried and whined and DNF'ed right there.
Goes to prove yet again, American women have more heart than American men.

Anyone notice the Bahrain women doing the Gallowalk at the end of the race. Funny, she finished, but not with a smile on her face???
With whatever happened to Jamal, I'm certain that if Morgan had not been tripped, she WOULD have won the gold.
But a great job by Juli (Benson). Peaked at exactly the right time.
You must be a Mammoth track club hater. Either scotty, ana willard, josh cox,amy hastings, jen rhines or even terrance mahon. They all hate Jenny B. Terrance is the only person to point the finger at. Every runner in the USA is happy for Jenny B except the mammoth track club haters.

Why do you say so? Why do they have Jenny The Champion?
No one person truly "deserves" to win, you cannot say it like that. Because that is playing favorites and the amount of effort they all put in to train for this race makes them all deserving of a win. What you should say is those who make it to the final are deserving of a shot at a medal, or winning. Those who execute the race correctly and get by with a little luck are the ones who medal. Jenny is now a World Champion, it is not because she did or did not deserve it, it is because she executed her race well and came out on top. Kudos to her! Morgan did not have luck on her side, but she showed class in her interview and deserves applaud. She does not deserve that medal because she did not finish first. Sounds harsh, but it is reality. I like both athletes, but you cannot take away from Jenny's win or Morgan's season by starting a battle over who deserved it more. They both trained their butt's off for this, just like the rest of the field, you cannot debate the outcome as it is final. We have a US World Champ in the Women's 1500 meters, it may not be who you expected, but after this many years of it not happening, why complain about it? Be happy that it finally happened after all these years!

So let me get this right...you are all saying that she won on merit; obviously she has to have the ability to compete at this level much less win.
But by your reasoning, saying she beat everyone fair and square is like saying, the rest of the field fell (tough luck) and she won...no sht she won, everyone that was capable of wining was out of the race.
It's like saying Ruhdisia fell in the 800 and then saying oh well Nick Sym is a much more deserving of the win than if David R. was in the race.
Comments without reasoning are truly idiotic, as is just calling someone dumb.
No doubt she won the race, but the quality of the field was diminished without Uceny and the rest of the field that was tripped and lost momentum; that is all that is being said nothing more. Having said that-we shall see how well she'll do at the olympics, these things have a tendency to balance out and bite one in the ass later on. My hope is that she continues to improve and win.
This is isn't going to be a popular opinion but I'm truly gutted that Jenny B is getting a medal and Morgan Uceny is not.
For me a world medal has to be EARNED and JB has done nothing this year to suggest she is worthy of it. Kudos for being able to capitalise on the mistakes of others but in all honesty she got lucky.
Feel free to rip me to pieces here but really I think Morgan Uceny is far more deserving of medal[/quote
Last time I checked, a world medal was EARNED by winning a championship race, but thanks for sharing your dumb opinion.
Strangely I would have had more respect for Uceny if she'd given Jamal an elbow or a shoulder bump when passing her right before the line.
I feel terrible for Morgan Uceny and have little doubt she could have won that race, but the OP is an IDIOT!
Too bad we couldn't see a US 1-2 finish.

There is only one deserving winner.
There is only one winner generally.
The one who wins the race. The slate is wiped clean on race day, and there is no more deserving winner than J BS.
She ran the best race. Was the best prepared and executed her race to perfection.
MU who I really like, followed the wrong wheels and fell. Its happened to a lot of good runners. But as someone pointed oiut, Rudisha piut himself up where no one could hurt him. If MU was such an over whelming favourite she should have done the same.
This is why its a race and not an election.
Everyone in that final has obviously done the work to get there. They earned the standard to run their national champs, they gained a spot on their national team, earned a world qualifier and then successfully ran through the heats at worlds to make it to the final. I really would have liked to have seen Uceny get a medal and even win, she got screwed over by circumstance. However, Jenny Simpson skipped none of the steps listed above and she won. She was completely deserving. Just because she didn't come into racing form until worlds means nothing. The reason medaling at worlds and the olympics is such an honor is because you have to show up on a certain day, no one hands the medal to you and pats you on the back for a good season. You have to go out and run just as hard as everyone else whether your Bekele or some no name 20 year old from Iceland to earn your recognition.
if you feel so bad for Morgan, send her a gold medal and see if she appreciates it.
Why does Jenny Simpson get the entire cover page on the site while Demus and Williams (today's other US gold medalists) get bupkes?
Just sayin'
