Simpson wins 1500m - Uceny falls!

Why is it that our women run mediocre to crappy times and win medals, yet our men are busting their butts running amazing times and not even making the finals?

I can't believe how little talk there is of Uceny.

I am a huge fan and obviously I wanted her to win more than Simpson. I am still happy for Simpson, and when Uceny fell I said, "Ok Jenny now you have to win this thing."

But I didn't realize how much Simpson's win would take away from people caring about Uceny, as it seems like people don't really even care about it anymore. I mean we could have gone 1-2!!!

Furthermore, Simpson saw Uceny fall (I am pretty sure based on her position during the fall) and I was very surprised that she didn't look for and console her at the end of the race. Hey, I could be wrong - she may not have known about Uceny's fall, but I doubt it. I also think that if she knew Morgan fell that he jumping up and down and screaming was in poor taste.

Is it me or did it look like a massive elbow was thrown to send the first girl down. Definitely not a one stride gap to get off the rail.

I agree with this post. I'm happy that an American won, but I was rooting so hard for Uceny. She's had such great results lately and has been fun and exciting to watch. It's just horrible that a tremendous misfortune took away her opportunity for a medal. Oh man, it's going to be hard not to replay a variety of what-ifs in my head after this. I'll be rooting for her next year, and hope that she has a chance to again display her talent and savvy racing tactics, similar to her string of successes at the Diamond League meets. What a solid and consistent showing....no freak wins. Uceny in 2012!!!!

Finally, WTF is wrong with you - there's plenty of effing time to "console" someone, but all of a moment to really revel in being a world champion. Sweet Jesus, how I'd hate to see the world through your eyes - a world in which "jumping up and down" after becoming the champion of the world in something is in poor taste. Uceny would have been embarrassed to be consoled right away by the new world champ, condescension and disingenuousness being in the worst taste of all.

In a race someone has to win and quite a few people have to lose. Ucney lost, get over it. Simpson just won the World Championship and after the last few years who the hell can blame her for being really excited, jumping up and down, etc. Ucney can reflect on the poor tactical choice she made and why she fell until next year when she gets another crack at it, it is not Simpson's job or responsibility to console her in any way.

She made about as poor a tactical decision as Liu Xiang did. She got cut off by Obiri, who tripped herself up and took out others with her. No discredit to Barringer Simpson, she's the deserving world champion.

Are you serious?

I am sitting at my desk on a trading floor in London, UK...a 51yr old never was runner from the days LSD and Centrowitz' Dad...and I am so proud of both of those women. Barringer--So clever and efficient, brilliantly unrehearsed in her shock in winning and then in the unleashing of emotions as she revelled in her acheivement...then Morgan Uceny. Pure class in defeat. She is a great competitor and an even better human being. Wow...If that doesn't make you feel happy to be alive then you have serious issues!!

I find it in poor taste to assume and comment on Jenny and whether she knew Morgan fell. Jenny is an incredibly generous and sportsman like athlete. She was obviously overwhelmbed and in shock after her win.

I'm sure the classy Barringer-Simpson spoke to Morgan.

Simpson just won the world title. You expect her not to celebrate? Are you kidding? The highlight of a very good career to date. It is too bad for Uceny. She likely wins that race if she does not go down, but she did and that is that. Let Simpson celebrate. She won and should not be expected to mope around because of someone else's misfortune. If it were the other way around I would have expected Uceny to celebrate to her heart's content. That is life in track!

Obiri is not disqualified. Ucney put herself in a bad spot, end of story.
