Collen DeRuck is 47....And still making teams. Wow.

I'll tell you what surprises me -
Heather Utrata is NOT on the women's marathon team!!
She should make is based on her sheer dedication and desire.
(And shameless self promotion, publicity whoring, and duping of ignorant reporters who don't do their homework)
In what way did she dupe ignorant reporters? Please to explain?

Some items of note:
- Fleshman is hot right now. 15:00 and going into Daegu with a ton of confidence. Totally decimated the London field. Whereas Huddle hasn't run since god knows when and she is only masking her injury right now. Her confidence is at a low point and not a lot of steam going into Daegu.
-Andrew Wheating. Not heard a word of his racing exploits of late. I am concerned he is not in top form and might falter in the 1500m heats.
-Rupp doubling. Even doubling he is better than the #4 guy so I think this is a good move and gives the US a fair chance at top 3 if its a slow race. Rupp has a kick this year. Sub 27 in Daegu? Do not be surprised.
-400m - even with the drug cheat running I am not confident we will win gold this year. That kid from Jamaica is looking really, really good. They call him the next Usain Bolt, except for 400m.... well on the other hand Merritt might be the next Ramzi, too juiced to lose.

Your reading comprehension sucks.
Of course Fleshman and Bruce, as well as Quinley knew that they could get named if they just took care of the A standard and a lot of other stuff went their way. This wasn't a Nike conspiracy theory. These athletes have been in the sport for a long time and know that at the end of the day, USATF can do whatever it wants.
I am not going to try to predict what the Spence's were thinking, but clearly they have been in the sport long enough to know the same.
Also, like I said, any athlete that had the potential to hit the Olympic A standard this summer, should have been trying to do so anyway.

I vehemently disagree with your opinion. I am also very happy for Lauren Fleshman.
If Neely and others didn't know there was a possibility that they could qualify there is a big problem. There are many other events where we're not sending three. Maybe some competitors said screw it.
Talk about a disservice to fans of the sport as well. It is not very hard to communicate that the top 4 language doesn't mean a thing.
If you don't think that Nike and Vin knew that Lauren and Ben or anyone else had a chance then you're off your rocker. No problem whatsoever with Vin supporting and encouraging OTC athletes, either. That's his job.
Why would anyone think that Steve Spence wouldn't be aware of the true specifics of the rules? Does anyone think he was specifically told that there'd be no chasing for anyone other than top 4? Do you think he wouldn't have asked? Do you think that if he were specifically told that there'd be no chasing for Neely, that he might have raised that issue by now?
Steve Spence is a bit smarter than the board nitwits, who seem to perpetually get tied up in all this hand wringing led by the board owners, are giving credit for.
