I knew the folks from Minnesota would be out in full force. Get back to me in November to March when you have ice covering your concrete and it's too cold, snowy, windy, and icy to run outside. That alone puts you in the top 10.

Most of Montana and Alaska both have great weather three seasons of the year and mountain trails to run on. Hawaii has consistent weather, incredible views, one of the largest marathons in the world, and some of the most varied terrain on the planet. Hawaii makes the top 10.

Oregon.... great for training and track and cross country racing, but road racing there sucks balls for many reasons.
Colorado and New Mexico are great for training, but who wants to road race slow at high altitude? Have to travel to sea level (fly or drive several hours) to get some fast times (excluding the few aided point-to-point/downhill courses). Arizona is at least within decent driving distance between Flagstaff/Phoenix for some sea level racing.

Idaho needs to be on the list. I was born and raised and still live here and even I agree that it sucks.
Kansas is an area of the world with one of the greatest amounts temperature variability. In the winter it can be 10 below with 40 mph winds and the summer it can be 110 without the heat index. Not to mention the pollen in the spring, summer and fall.You will never have a workout without at least a 15 mph wind, it's usually much higher. It is common to have the wind at 25-35 mph and gusts 40+.Yesterday it rained at 3:00 and the temperature went from 108 to 78. I decided to get a run in, by the time I got back the temp had rose back to 103 with a heat index of 116 - the dew point was 79! I was only gone an hour. WTF Kansas?

um.. because florida is one of the best distance running states there is. lots of talent, doesnt get cold in the winter, the summer heat isnt a reason to say its a bd running state, if anything it makes you tougher

Considering the amazing weather and the large population in North Carolina and how f'ing slow the state meet results are every damn year, I'd nominate NC for the worse state. No state is further from its potential in distance running than NC. Now sprints and field events are a different story.
You haven't been paying attention to the results. NC has been holding its own for the last several years and is getting better every season. Check out the Footlocker results from the last 3-4 years, lots of NC names.

You got a lot of serious responses, but you had to keep replying to keep the ball rolling.
every state has bad running areas and good running areas. EG: the part of VA I'm in is a hellhole. Two hours south or southwest there are great places to run. Four hours south it gets crappy again.
