Good luck to Fam. He has never been quite at the top, but he has been consistently good over a wide range of distances and he's always interesting to follow. He's also had a good long career supporting himself by running, which is living the dream as far as I'm concerned.

Heh heh, no, you are waaaay off. I have a satisfying career, a beautiful wife, and "gave up" on running a long, long time ago, back when I realized that some guys were twice as fast as me but put in half the work. Running for me is just a hobby, and a sport I like to watch and follow.
If I had the kind of (running) talent that Fam does though, I would milk it for all its worth.
"Grow up." What does that even mean? Is this like Flagpole's "real man" comments? Kind of silly. I'm sure Fam has things that he'd like to do in life, and he'll get around to them in due time. Starting a new career in your mid-thirties is not unheard of in this country.
Perspectaval, you sound like someone I knew a long time ago, someone who really tried to be a pro runner, fell a little short, and ended up....whatever, with your kind of attitude, your life is its own stale reward.
