Walmart Blows

I don't really "get" Wal Mart.

I have shopped there on occasion, but I don't find it to be any cheaper than other grocery stores. Sure, they have some cheaper items, but getting in the car, driving all the way over to the big box store part of town is more costly than just paying an extra 32 cents for the item at the Safeway.

In fact, I have been watching my spending very closely this year, and we spend less money shopping at Whole Foods than we do at Safeway. I can get fresh, organic vegetables at the Whole Foods for cheaper than the Safeway. Plus, the quality is a hell of a lot better.

Whole Foods gets you with the prepared foods, which we don't really buy. There aisles are not that much more expensive. I can get those bagged cereals reminiscent of Malt-O-Meal at the Whole Foods for $2.99 a bag. Each bag has like 2 times the amount of a normal $4.99 box of HFCS crap from Safeway.

I don't understand the hate for Whole Foods.

Back to Wal-Mart. Sure, they have a lot of cheap stuff, but the key word is "cheap." Most of the crap at Wal Mart is unnecessary. People convince themselves that they need shitty disposable crap.

I can understand grocery shopping at the Wal Mart if it is close, but don't act like you an get 3 times the amount of food at Wal-Mart. It isn't really that much cheaper.

Plus, Wal Mart is hell on the eceonomy.

Does Timex make Ironman watches that are lower quality specifically for Walmart? The regular price is lower than you would find online, or at any other sporting good store.

I have also seen some amazing clearance prices on these watches at Walmart. Maybe Walmart can offer these prices because of the sheer volume that the buy and sell.

I feel they alway have some good and average prices, but never hose you excessively like many stores do on non-sale items.

What some of you are missing is "why" Walmart prices are cheaper. Due to Walmart's aggressive lobbying of politicians, China pays an import tax of 2.5%. They charge U.S. manufacturers 25% for goods exported to China. This is why Walmart has cheap & poorly made products from China. They sell items cheaper than a mom-and-pop store can get it from the manufacturers. People get their cheap shit, but the manufacturing jobs are now in Chinese sweatshops and our unemployment is near 10%.

Walmart strongarms suppliers and refuses to pay many local taxes asking municipalities to "sue us". They know their lawyers will tie up local governments with lengthy and expensive suits and it costs more to fight it than just allow them to cheat the system.

Which store, or US companies hasn't gone overseas for products or production? We now have Ford's made in Mexico and BMW's made in South Carolina. Is there a running shoe made in the US anymore?

So ? The dollar stores do they same to drive prices lower than W & T. The internet stores are going to destroy W, T, and the dollar stores.

Bull. They have been charged in Ark, Wisc, with violating anti-trust laws. In Wisc, they settled. In Ark, they admitted to undercutting competition by selling products at a loss, but the Ark supreme court said that it was not an anti-trust violation. But, Walmart was still running the competition out of town. Just because it doesn't rise to the level of an anti-trust violation (nothing ever does anymore), doesn't mean that it isn't happening.

it's business, cheaper prices and a VAST product selction will win everytime. it has a freakin McDonalds inside it! how sweet is that.

to the people saying "keep it in the family," what the hell does that mean? me paying 15% more for the same product to support a mom and pop store doesn't have a damn thing to do with me, it just costs me MORE money. i like having money. i'm a big fan of currency.

Walmart, Target and other big-box stores will eventually be done in by high fuel prices. There will come a time when #1 - you can't afford to ship big container ships loaded with throw-away junk over from China and #2 - you can't afford to drive 3 miles out of town to the Walmart (you'll walk down to the new Mom&Pop that you live near and pay a higher price for a higher quality product that you WON'T throw away after one use). Say goodbye to cheap screwdrivers and the like.

Until that time comes, get yer ashes down to Walmart and take advantage of the low prices.

Check your state laws. In my state I can waltz into the Costco whenever I want for alcohol or pharmacuetical items because it is illegal to charge a membership fee to shop for those things.
