Rowberry came in clearly out of shape and Pierce had not looked good. CT already run 2:03 and really Uceny and Simpson were probably the only ones that could have handled a sustained drive with about 800 left.
CT's tactic was a gift to Rowberry.

going out at 3:52 pace when your pr is 3:59 is incredibly dumb. She has no excuse for being that dumb, running like that is not about guts its about being a proffesional runner who has not figured out what pace their body can handle without blowing up. She continues to show her stupidity by claiming she could handle 62 second 400m pace because she ran a 3:14 1200m in practice.

CT can learn something about front running from Montano. She doesn't need to put 30m on the field - just a hard sustained pace that most of the field can't match.

I agree. A brave race, badly marred by clearly cheating at the end. If she had qualified, there would probably have been a DQ. She had my respect until seeing the last 50 meters. Not quite as bad as the guy at world cross, but in the ballpark.

Rowbury has been injured since October. She proved yesterday that she has incredible talent and guts by beating all the other ladies and handling the hot pace off of very limited training.
Everyone else in that field has been training for this for months. I can't wait to see what Rowbury does in Daegu

I respectfully disagree. How eles can you push past your PR unless you surpass the PR pace. If she'd hung on for third place, which she almost did, this conversation would be total praise.

Nobody is saying she shouldn't try for a pr, but going out at too fast a pace becomes counterproductive. This is obvious. It is a 1500m race not 1200m, which is about as long as she lasted.

She was on 3:58 pace for a while- which is what all of these women should be running. The team ended up being who I thought it would be 800 meters in, but I have to admit that I wish the others had gone with Wurth-Thomas.
She's done the lane bump before. A year or two ago.
I watched the race. When you're in the position that you know there are at least 3 runners that are better than you then why not try to run away and risk to get caught. Tour de France kinda like running. You never see the big names in a break.
The bump was just dump. Not good sports(wo)menship.
Going out on 3:52 pace BY yourself is generally a poor idea when your PR is 3:59 and the main purpose of the race is to beat other people with similar PRs.
If she was in a race that went out at 3:52 pace and was more about time than place, then yes, 3:52 pace would be understandable.
No matter how you spin it, suicidal front-running is not the best way to finish top three for CWT. A long, sustained drive from 600m out would have made much more sense.
I really like the way Christin went for it. I know she is taking grief now because it didn't work but she ensured the 3 of the fittest ladies would make the team and ultimately that was her best chance. If she had let the pace be slow like the men's race was, she likely wouldn't have made the team either as that would have let a few less fit women (such as Willard) with great kicks into the race, plus added the chances of getting boxed in, tripped, etc.
As it was, she decided her best chance was a quick pace and almost pulled it off, just a slight miscalculation on her part (maybe a second or 2 too fast the first lap).
In a slow tactical race I think she was probably 5th or 6th and instead she was 4th only .01 off of 3rd.
Christin showed guts that I admire
In a race like that, she showed that she has no confidence in her kick. This was about place, not time - save that for Zurich (or wherever). While she almost stole the race - she didn't as it turns out - this wasn't the time to learn that lesson. Had she waited until 800m out, then she might have dropped the pretenders and had enough in the tank to at least try and fend others off. Even El G didn't go right from the gun. She must have seen the 1988 OG 1500m (Romanian woman?) and thought that she could do that as well, but I'm not convinced she has the 5000m strength to handle that kind of tactic. She was fortunate that the depth of the field wasn't all that great (4.12 for 9th!!), or she might have had even more women catch her.
A 3.14 1200m is 64high pace (4.02), so 62 was simply too fast (got overexcited) for that race and her abilities to do it solo, or least without a rabbit. Unfortunate as her guts deserved the glory (making the team), but someone with her experience shouldn't be making that mistake in a race of that magnitude.
Is she self coached? I'm surprised a coach hasn't yet been blamed. I watched her online without sound and was impressed that splits were shown at each quarter. After seeing 62.+ for the first lap and then the drop off to
2:08 + I knew it would be like Nascar. There is always a crash worth watching, and in running it's a lot easier to guess when the crash will occur. This was more about running out of gas and quickly drifting outside with just some minor bumping going into the checkered flag.
