Exactly. These are the same people who continued chanting "we want the cup" through the American National Anthem.
I don't want to hear about how awesome and peaceful Canada is anymore. You're all up your a$$ about it.
I don't dispute that it was a classless display, but I will say that the national anthem isn't taken anywhere near as seriously in Canada as it is in the U.S. The fans who were doing the chanting probably weren't fully aware of just how disrespectful they were being.
Secondly, why do we even bother with the national anthems before sporting events? We don't sing it before other entertainment events like plays or movies. I would understand if the players on the teams all came from the region they were representing, but many of Vancouver's star players are not from Canada, and Boston only has a few from the States. There are also many Europeans playing in the NHL. Should we be playing their national anthems before the start of games also? Having the national anthems makes it seem like the games are a war between Canada and the U.S., when in fact they are just two highly marketed brands, owned by billionaires, who are trying to hype up the importance of the game in order to make more profit. Booing just intensifies the rivalry so, while the owners would never publicly endorse it, they probably secretly like the fact that their fans are so passionate about the success of the team.
The slimey, smelly Canadian white apes. What a disgrace. No wonder the US has gotten it's ass kicked in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

Pussies are poor losers. this behavior will prevent them from winning next year like they could have if they had been good sports. I am sure you do not condone the poor sportsmanship and rediculous behavior of your fellow countrymen and women.
Nope, I don't condone any of it, just chiding you for leaping to a conclusion that seems to be a common (mis)belief among average Americans.
There's no excuse for the behaviour of the small number of idiots who smashed windows, destroyed cop cars etc. That sort of mob behaviour puzzles me, but I expect it was going to happen regardless of the outcome.
When Mario Lemieux announced that he was returning to the penguins in 2000 it was almost a national holiday in Canada. People were going crazy that one of the best players ever to come out of Canada was returning to play again. Saying hockey is not important in Canada is damn right ignorant.

I don't know why, but the thought of rampaging Canadians just makes me bust out laughing.
You know it's Canadian riots when there's people making out in the middle of them.
Doesn't look pretty at all from these shots:
Hey sh#@t head, guess what? We have a strong economy, our dollars worth more, and we're not fighting an illegal war in Iraq for oil (we have enough oil at home). And I can't wait for the day when you sh!$t the bed because China asks for it's money back and you loose 1/3 of your country... you thought you knew what recession was in 08' it's only beginning you clown!
Hockey is not an athletic sport.

It's "lose" not "loose" and the apostrophe comes BEFORE the truncated year, not after it, dumbass! I'm guessing you went to Brock and not McGill.

These riots have nothing to do with hockey. BC is filled with 20 year old guys who live dead end lives, who are jealous of the wealth of Vancouver, are frustrated because they can't afford to cost of living, and are looking for an excuse to act like idiots. They would have done the same thing if Vancouver won.
What about the middle-aged housewives stealing designer bags from stores?
Not as bad as the effin US though where the fire fighters stole beer and smart phones from the San Bruno PG&E fire, Joplin tornado, 9-11/WTC, Katrina/NOLA, etc.
You shouldn't be so happy about it, "EH".
I lived in BC for a decade, long enough to know that the only things driving it are, in order of importance, softwood lumber, mining, oil in the Peace, electricity/smelting, fishing, and tourism.
Softwood lumber is the 900-lb gorilla. It ALL ends up in the USA. Same with the oil in the Peace. Fishing is no longer very important except for the bands, and the province pays handsomely to keep their fishery alive so that they can sell to, essentially, the Japanese--who rely for their money on exports that go to the USA, and on investments in US financial instruments. Who do you think takes the cruises up to the inner passage, and pays for big-game hunting in the north of BC? Americans. The smelter in Kitimat relies on a sweet deal with BC Hydro to be profitable to operate, which relies on sound government revenues, which relies on US purchasers for BC goods, namely softwood lumber.
BC has no domestic market, and although some of their stuff goes to other parts of Canada and the world, the places to which it goes are entirely dependent on US economic health for their own economic health.
I agree with you that the US is going down--but as goes the US, so goes Canada, there is just a bit of a lag time.
Canada's domestic markets, as a whole, are essentially insignificant--just ask anybody involved in business in Canada, except some strictly regional concerns in Toronto where there is a 10-million-person customer base close by.
I am concerned for not only the US but, by extension, for Canada.

Really? Like what?

There was a hockey riot in '94 that has lived on in the city's collective conscious, and these guys couldn't wait to be part of that lore.
Divorce this riot from hockey. Similar stupid acts occurs on fireworks night and any other collective gathering.
Bingo. There are two Vancouvers. Vancouver island is the Manhattan of Canada. Extremely expensive, lots of wealthy foreigners. Then, there is the working class, living on the main land in cruddy 1950s houses and apartments. Your average working class resident of Vancouver sees the island as a bastion of privilege that is completely out of reach for them. Thus, given an excuse, they take out their frustrations on the privileged people living in the green glass highrises.
Vancouver police were completely unprepared for this. Any half decent metropolitan police force would have been able to stop this. But the Vancouver police assumed that everything would be fine because the Olympics went off without a hitch.
Like being America's favorite bedfellow!
BTW Markeroon, you spelled "favourite" incorrectly.
This has to be one of the best quotes I've ever read:
"Vancouver island is the Manhattan of Canada."
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!
I lived there for 3 years. Like Port McNeill? Like Qualicum Beach? Like Campbell River?
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was in a governmental position in North Cowichan, which gets almost all of its tax revenues from the pulp mill. I don't remember seeing one of those in Manhattan!
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The west end of Hongcouver is much more akin to Manhattan, a place you've obviously never been.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm out, obviously there are a bunch of 12-year-olds, out of school, posting rubbish.

Prices in Vancouver (on the mainland) are substantially higher than on Vancouver Island (not a part of Vancouver - the largest city is Victoria, the provincial capital).
People, quite making shit up. It only makes you look like an idiot.
We're in Afghanistan. We're also involved in the Libyan campaign. We DID NOT participate with the coalition of the confused/duped in Iraq. Housing prices in Vancouver proper are the very highest in the country.
If there's anything else you'd like to know about Canada, just ask. I'll be here all day...
