NCAA 800!! Who you got?

Thank you Coach Labadie for tooting own horn. Now hopefully you can get the Illini job and seeif you can score a point in a real conference?

I just wanted to mention Willie Brown, because he made a huge drop. You don't get lucky to run 1:45 in a heat at nationals. Maybe he hadn't gotten into a fast race until now or maybe he was just a very undertrained guy in high school and his training is just taking. But you have to take seriously a guy who drops that much to that level, an Olympic Trials qualifier, that quickly, and if he isn't a contender for the NCAA title, maybe he should be considered a potential future star. With Samoei, the indoor champ, out, I think that Andrews has a great shot at it, but he can't leave a huge gap to Primm, Jock, and Martin, because they should be out quick in 50 or 51, and Greer for the first time at nationals looked very good and he runs a similar style to Andrews.

Hah, now I am a coach instead of a philosopher! Well, I might have been named an assistant coach next fall at a school in another division had I stayed around and continued to run with the team.

In an NCAA final, it will be the smart racer who wins. I pick in this order:

1. Robby Andrews. I saw him get beat by Wheating last year, and I will not forget how he took it. It will not happen again...he is a scrapper, and he has the best kick.

2. Charles Jock has shown toughness and an ability to run in a competitive field.

3. Elijah Greer would give Andrews and Jock fits, but he is just a sophomore and is still learning and growing his strength.

4. Cory Primm. I like his spirit and experience, but he has run too many races during this past month. By the time of the finals, he will not have enough in the tank.

5. Loxsom is much like Greer, but not quite as ready for the big time race. He will do well, but probably will make a sophomore mistake during the race.

6, 7. Martin and Samoi are both excellent 800 meter runners, just in the wrong year--too much talent around them
