I think LV knows perfectly well how fast the race is going to be in front of him. He told the Chicago Tribune that he will run his own race.
I would be *really* surprised if he doesn't break the record. I'm predicting 8:30.

Lukas will run. And Lukas will win.
You, of all people, should know this.
why was puskedra in the prefontaine classic 2-mile a couple years ago? were all of you complaining as much as you are now?
Lukas will run under 8:34 today and next week will run under 4 for the mile. After all this is over he will definitely be the greatest high school runner of all time.

Why he thinks, or anyone thinks, he would "blow" the competition away in a high school only 2Mile is insane. Cheserek ran with him the entire race indoors. Last year when he tried to break German's record, the Rosas totally broke him. I know they have faced some injuries, but a totally healthy Joe Rosa would have challenged him in a 2 mile, and Cheserek already has this year.
LV broke himself. Notice that Jim Rosa was healthy for NXN and completely fell apart and finished like 70s or 80s after trying to run with LV. Cheserek couldn't even phase LV when Cheserek was fresh, and LV was coming off a national highschool indoor 5000m record, which just confirmed impression of how dominant LV was over Cheserek and the rest of the "competition" at NXN.

Remind me again why Lukas Verzbicas is in a two mile where the slowest 5k runner besides him is 13:11, why he is in a race with 8 men whom have run under the 13:00 barrier and some quite substantially...WHY WHY WHY IS HE IN THE RACE, A COMPLETE HUMILIATION!!!
HSR....8.29>
dat's why< bitch!!!!
TO SET THE HSR in the 2 MILE....ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?????
And he was not that far back
he got dusted by isaiah koech who is almost a full year younger. simply outclassed by the field, regardless of the record he really didn't belong on that track.

would you rather have him run against other high schoolers where he laps the entire field? He is obviously on a different level than every high schooler in the county (other than cheserek), and he wants to have races to prepare him for collage running where he will probably get beaten pretty good very often.
Joe and Jim Rosa handed him his ass in the 2 mile last year.
Notice you said LAST YEAR....Where are Joe and Jimmy now???
Which High School career would you rather have Joe/Jim or Lucas??
ok thank you very much

They are running in high school meets. They just went 1-2 in the mile at the state group meet.

Too bad I didn't have anyone around to bet on this!
Anyone have splits? I was ranting to my wife about the stupid, ignorant NBC crew who completely ignored his race, when they could have at least spared a few seconds showing his status in the race. I saw one shot after the mile where he seemed to be within ten seconds of the pack, and had a good feeling he was on pace for the record.
NBC couldn't spare a few seconds for his race because they were using those seconds to show Dwight Stones talk about the high jump and show high jump updates.
AGAIN...WHICH HS CAREER WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE?
It's funny how people are bumping the OPs post to try and prove a point, but his original point is still valid.
LV was in no way shape or form competitive in this race.
Whether you are happy with his 2 mile record or not, his original point still stands.

A. Highly unlikely that Isaiah is that age, even the Kenyans openly question in their publications.
B. He beat a couple people who DNFed and was close to 2nd to last of those who finished, so suck it.
8 seconds behind the second to last runner isn't "close to second to last."
That's a long, long ways back in a race like this. However, I am very pumped he was in the race and glad to see him get the runner. He's ridiculously good and will continue to make people look foolish. Given his record - setting aside his lose to the Rosa's when he went out too hard and faded - he seems to have the mental toughness and courage that German doesn't seem to currently have. I predict top 10 Cross next year, 13:30 5000, 3:38 1500.

Lukas was fairly pale and lanky, in contrast to Alan Webbs muscular figure when he ran his sub four. I would've expected Lukas to be red as a radish as a result of training. Just goes to show, the mid-west cloudiness hides the competitiveness.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
