I would actually disagree with the idea that the internet reveals a person's "true character." Ignoring the very real possibility that any given poster is not who they say they are / seem to be / whatever, I've always thought that a person's true colors were what the rest of us can glean from dealing with them face to face, and that the internet and its various message boards allow people to get out that anger and frustration that we all have (everybody has a little bit of it, some have a lot) in a place that isn't so serious as real life.
