if you think it's possible he finished 3rd at 37 without doping(which it just really does not seem plausible he would dope at that point with EVERYTHING to lose. (seriously, everything. livestrong goodbye. most sponsors, goodbye). why is it so hard for people to think he could win the tour in his prime, not doping, against dopers?

not every single rider was doped.

if you are better than everyone without doping, you don't dope. it's not worth it.

if PROOF came out lance doped, i wouldn't be shocked, i would be very surprised though.

there is too much accusation of doping with no proof. just because you are faster than everyone doesn't make you a doper.

"haile doped, wanjiru doped, bekele doped, lagat doped"...

fast does not = dope. get that through your head and than you will appreciate performance better.

As PresMustache points out, why is it so hard to believe a guy that never tested positive could in fact BE CLEAN.

If we go by this bullshit assumption that because of the overwhelming coincidental allegations (disgruntled rival/former team bosses/riders talking drivel) then we must assume that pretty much every phenomenal athlete in the past 20 years at least, was doping.

So Phelps was doping too was he? really the list goes on and on, as humanity progresses so does the ability of said humans.

LA was the best doping responder. That doesn't prove he would

have been the best without doping.

AND Contador won and is a caught doper.

I agree with this. When Hamilton and Landis were with USPS, they never got caught, but when they went to different teams, they got caught.

On a different note, howcome Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa are all villified and hated for accusations, but not Lance? It's b/c most Americans don't care or don't know about cycling. If you actually follow cycling and have knowledge of cycling, most people conclude that Lance cheated. He beat all of his competitors, Jan Ullrich, Ivan Basso, Tyler Hamilton, etc, and you know what happened to all of his competitors? They all got caught!!! So, you're telling me that Lance was able to beat all of these cheaters while riding clean? Come on, wake up and smell the coffee. Yes, Lance has done lot of good for the sport of cycling, but he did cheat.

If cycling is an "American sport" like baseball or football, Lance will no doubtedly be hated. It's just most Americans don't have a clue about cycling, and just sees all of the good things that he has done, so they conclude that he can't be lieing.

What they see is an American (force for good) beating lots of Europeans (forces of evil).

You either have an admission, a dirty test, or you have nothing. Armstrong is the greatest TdF rider of alltime, and this bothers lesser riders. The attacks follow. Am I certain that he never used PEDS? Of course not, but you MUST have proof, and none exists.

Keep in mind...cyclists test positive all the time. Lance has more than 500 tests...ALL positive. I have followed cycling for 26yrs, and find it almost impossible to explain how a dirty rider could somehow pass more than 500 consecutive screens.

You could test someone a million times and they would never test positive if there isn't a test for the thing they are taking/doing.

Lance never had to worry about getting caught after he had blood transfusions, did he? Wasn't even a test for EPO until well into his career, and even after that it wasn't reliable given how soon after the shot they had to test for it to read positive.

Marion Jones was tested a lot, she never tested positive. It's all about having the best medical support, which of course Lance had. (Ferrari.)

Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton didn't test positive while riding for US Postal. US Postal had the best medical support team. Soon as they left the team, both of them got caught.

It is only hard to account for if you assume that tests catch a high percentage of users.

Far more people never test positive than the number that do test positive. I would venture to guess that some of them also use PEDs.

You know who else never tested positive? Valverde. No one questions whether he blood doped.

I love it how morons now conclude that NOT testing positive is evidence that someone doped! "Well Marion Jones never tested positive, but it turns out she was a drug cheat. Lance hasn't never tested positive, therefore he is a drug cheat too!"

Back in the Lance era of cycling, very very few riders were testing positive for EPO.

Most of those that were caught or implicated were caught because of police raids and stuff being found into hotels and team buses.

The test for EPO has always been very hit and miss.
