As someone whose highest-mileage week was 229 (mostly 7-minute miles, except for some faster track workouts and tempo runs), I generally agree with this:

However, you have no basis whatsoever for this statement:
There is no reason to run this type of mileage. It can only trash your body, no matter how ridiculously slow it was probably done.
In a less absolute form, I could maybe agree with it. Some people certainly can't do that mileage safely. However, with the several billion people on Earth, why is it that hard for you to believe that there are people out there who CAN handle it and even benefit from it?
