WORST DAYS (could be much worse though)
age 18: i was captain of my HS XC team, teammate died in a terrible accident.
age 23: girlfriend who used me as a rebound had me drop her off one night at her ex boyfriends house to spend the night
age 26: found out my dad has heart disease and needed a cath inserted

Saddest day when my mother died. I miss my mommy ;-(

At first I bawwed, then I lol'd, then I bawwed again.
Unfortunately I've experienced both of those bawws so I feel your pain, but dam I've never drop a chick off anywhere after sex. Too lazy.
The whole story would be too long to tell on here, but I've always had a rough childhood with a single mom as a parent. My dad left when I was born and I've never seen or talked to him. I moved schools alot as a kid in Georgia. When my mom found out my little sister's dad was sexually abusing her, she took it upon herself to move us far away from him, to Texas.
My mom has always been just really mean. This may have caused me to be a pretty bad trouble maker up until high school. I got my act together though and started running and getting good grades.
One day my mom and I were in yet another big fight (she would try to hit me and stuff but I wouldn't allow it) and she finally kicked me out for good. This was my senior year after I had just won the district title in cross. Anyway within one day I was home and jobless. I called a police officer to accompany me as I got my belongings from my Mom's house in case she got violent or something. The cop ended up assaulting me because I didn't want to go near my mother (who was standing next to him telling him to never let me on the property again). He slammed me against my friend's truck and hit me in the ribs.
Luckily I have amazing friends that offered to let me live with them. I went on a training rampage and dropped 3 seconds in the 800 and 12 seconds in the mile, earned a scholarship athletically and academically. All while working at dairy queen late nights.
So looking back that day probably made me much stronger. I am going to graduate with my bachelor's degree in a couple weeks and have earned multiple NAIA all-Americans. But I must say, that day I cried so much. I couldn't sleep for days worrying about what I would do, fearing this would ruin the rest of my life.

The day my mum died for me, though obviously it happens to everyone, and pales in comparison to what some previous posters have been through.
She had ovarian cancer, and the hospital made screw up after screw up. They misdiagnosed/ignored tumors in her bowel for ~3 months, and by the time they operated she weighed ~4.5 stone and had no chance of recovery.
I lived quite a long way away from the hospital and visited her every weekend. One Saturday she was coherent and we had a nice long talk. At 9am the following Friday morning i got a call from the hospital saying i should come asap: i asked straight up if she was going to die, and the nurse didn't answer.
By the time i'd sped to the hospital, arriving ~3 hours later, they'd withdrawn fluids and dosed her up on morphine, and she was unable to talk. I sat with her until she died that evening. I'd love to know whether she heard the things i said.
The day my wife was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a little over a year before we were going to retire.
Now, it is possible that we will lose 31 years worth of savings which were going to go to a retirement home in Arizona.
Even 21 months into diagnosis, I am still in shock.
When my wife left me for a guy in her carpool (who, obviously, she was cheating with while we were together) WHILE my father lay dying of stomach cancer. I experienced two deaths within a few months: the death of a marriage & a death of a father. Ever walk into an empty house? Ever walk into an empty hospital room? Tough. Tough. Tough.
That time period changed my perspective on life. I am a much more optimistic person. I don't let small things bother me anymore (because I know how tough life can be).
I would confess though that I'm still feeling the effect from all of it too...nearly 5 years later. Sigh.
My wife and I found out that our youngest son had Down syndrome 21 weeks into the pregnancy. Ten days after that we found out he had an AV canal defect in his heart. The day he was born he was beautiful and lively, if a bit blue at first. We were able to treat his heart condition for a few months with medication and he had his heart repaired when he was about six months old. The morning of the surgery he was fussy because he was hungry so I carried him around the pre-op area until he fell asleep. The anesthesiologist came for him a few minutes later and I carried my sleeping boy to the surgery doors and gave him to the doctor. He woke up as the doctor took him and the look of terror and confusion still haunts me a little bit. I stood there watching them carry him away until they turned the corner and the doors shut. That was rough.
He came through his surgery pretty well but spent about a week in the CICU and was airlifted back about three days after we were discharged. Today, almost two years later, he is a mischievous little runt who digs in potted plants and enjoys throwing all 150 balls out of the ball pit in his room.

That tumor took my father last year- three and a half weeks after diagnosis.
A doc from my gym talked about a patient who lasted many years after that same diagnosis. Hope is powerful.

My worse day was when I 14, my mother took her own life. When my dad found her upstairs, he ran down the stairs yelling 'she's dead, she's dead!'. He was an idiot. For years she threatened to kill herself, and even tried to get me or my brother to kill her a few times. She wanted me to take a knife a slit her wrists or take a thick plastic bag and suffocate her. We didn't believe her intentions were that strong, but the weeks leading up to her death, she didn't care about anything and looking back on it, it was evident that she had given up.
My dad died when I was a freshman in college, apparently from liver failure (from using any type of drug he could get his hands own for many years). I paused for probably 30 minutes from a Spanish test I was studying for, but was not so distraught that I couldn't take the test.
I have to say that running has been my savior. Even if you aren’t a great runner by letsrun standards, it gives you goals and teaches you that with hard work good things will come.
easily the day after my girlfriend and i broke up. never felt like that in my life. couldnt sleep, complete fear and terror. i couldnt stop moving. walked in circles for hours.
4 years later still think about it all the time. have only been on 1 real date since and it was awful. have hooked up with a few girls and feel like crap every time.
everyone says it gets better with time. couldn't be further from the truth. only gets worse.
even worse, realizing if this is the worst day of my life then my life is pretty good. makes me feel like a real pussy.

You know....you're absolutely right. However, I might feel differently than you do. After reading this, I am really thankful I have not had to endure so many of these things. Good lord my "problems" just seem so small and inconsequential now. This thread has provided me with a great new perspective on what we can handle.
Probably the day we buried my mom. Very sad crying with old family friends at the funeral, but strangely once she was in the ground things felt better.

As upsetting as it is reading through all these stories, it is definitely good for outsiders to here about these anonymous stories. All I can do in reading is reflect upon my own life and realize how fortunate I am. The worst day of my life is when my g/f (of 2 years) and I broke up when I was 19. It stung for a bit, and I thought about it a lot, but it doesn't compare. This thread isn't the first time I have realized others have had it worse, I always knew that. But it's a good reminder. I am sure there will be many days that will be worse than a break up in my life, but knowing that it is a part of life will prepare me for those days.
1. Watching my brother get hit by a truck going 50mph at age 15. He was in a coma for a couple days and lived. I will never forget the sound of that impact.
2. Getting dumped by my girlfriend in high school. High school relationships are vicious. It's no wonder we become hardened individuals by the age of 21. She ran off with a guy I had hated since the 7th grade (because he constantly picked on me.) On the last day of my senior year, I considered giving him the most ferocious beat down. I had outgrown him by nearly 6 inches and was ready to destroy him because I was obviously stronger than he would ever be. I was ready to beat him senseless and take out 6 years of misery on his face. Somehow, I talked myself out of doing it.
3. When my college girlfriend told me she was pregnant. That phone call will haunt me for the rest of my existence. I was only 22. She conceived in September, but didn't tell me she was pregnant until December. She purposely went off her birth control because she was flunking out of college and thought my paycheck would be her ticket out...and she was right. I had no say in the matter...abortion was never an option either. Imagine being 22 and ready to take on the world and travel, only to have a some girl destroy your dreams. In April the baby was born. He is 8 now. I see him once a month, and I love him dearly, but I hate his mother with the intensity of the sun.
