Ok so with the wind conversion he still ran around 2:06. The decision to be self coached was obviously not a bad one for Ryan. In fact compared to last season this is an improvement. Good work Ryan can't wait to see what you can do on a regular course I hope you break 2:06.

Scott, get sober. There have been TWO Bostons in the last 30 years in which there have been a tailwind. This years version was the strongest. Add 3-4 minutes.

and to anyone that say they don't care about the coniditions, I suppose we could have a few goes at the mile WR, and run it down hill, and maybe with the wind at your back.
Its a great run, but probably not good enough to be an AR, and because we can't have any certainty, that means it is DEFINITELY NOT an AR.

the problem is no that Hall listens to God and follows him or whatever. The problem for some people is that he constantly gives himself no credit, and simply says that he is fast because God said he could. I am not religious at all, and I have no problem with what Ryan believes or does not believe. But come on man give yourself some credit once and awhile. You just ran a hell of a race!

Based on this analysis, did Hall even PR, I mean the Brojo's coach, JK, is basically saying that Hall ran a 2:07 high or 2:08 high. it's good dont get me wrong, but not a PR, and certainly not an AR
Of course it's not an American record. The rules on what courses count are clear. Does anyone think the leaders would have run as fast if the course had been reversed and they ran East to West?
Still, a number of really special performances.
Tailwind or not, this was still an incredible run. He finishes 4th, right behind Gebremariam who won New York in the fall and just ran the NYC Half in around 60:30 for a close 2nd.
Everyone knew Mutai was in incredible shape after he won the Kenyan XC Trials, and Mosop is obviously very fit also. Even if you look at place, Hall ran a gutsy race and finished close to some very legit East Africans, not to mention the others he actually beat today.
Just to clear things up the winds were not steady 20mph talk wins. Much more swirling winds and very few gusts. I observed the race so,i know
Hall ran sub-2:05, wind-aided or not. He was beaten by almost two minutes. BUT he beat some East African badasses, to, and by more than a minute. Why didn't the wind help them?
If not the AR, this remains the all-time American best. It beats Robert K. Cheriyot's stunning then-record of 2:07:14 by two minutes and 17 seconds. It beats last year's even more stunning sub-2:06 by almost a minute.
There is simply no way not to applaud Hall--self-coached, often mocked--for his American-best performance today. Yes, he got beat, by an even more remarkable performance on a difficult course. But he has done pretty much he said he was going to do. He's the best we have right now. He delivered a career performance in a big, unrabbited race.
There is simply no way that he can't NOW be considered one of the top three, perhaps top two, American marathoners of all time. I don't care who you boot out of the top two--Shorter or Rodgers--but I'm afraid that one of them needs to go. Probably Boston Billy.
That is a remarkable achievement.
AR or no AR, who cares? This was a great RACE! This is what we have been lacking for the last couple of decades. Hall was in it pretty much the whole way and he had a hand in setting up the ultimate outcome. It is great that the U.S. is climbing back into the competitive level of international racing. People saw an exciting race and the Boston message thread was a fantastic read as I was following along. The times for the top guys were out of this world, but they still had to run the race. It was not a boring time trial like most European Track races for records are. There was no "jogging" until the final lap, like many Olympic track finals. These guys, and girls were cranking it the whole way. Others will see this and start thinking if Hall or Desiree can do it I might be able to as well.
Well said. Let's not foget that Hall's early pacing was a major contributing factor as to why he and others ran as fast as they did. Hall said he was confident with his fitness coming in and many of us doubted him after his NYC half, but watching him he was clearly very comfortable running sub-1:02 at the half

Great race by Ryan, I was so happy to see him coming in after the winners. When I seen the clock/time I just couldnt believe it...still dont! To bad the coverage wasnt as good. Sorta sad when you dont his position he crosses the line.

And didn't you see how the course was even more downhill for Ryan than it was for Gebre Gebre (5 seconds ahead of Ryan) or for the previous course record holder (3+ minutes behind Ryan)? Sh!t, if I got downhills as big as Ryan did, I almost certainly would have been well under 2 hours. With the tailwind, I might have even been able to dip under 1 hour today.
