D2 and D3 DMR's.... Really??

A D3 school might get a stud who could compete at the D1 level. Thus, the individual events are decent. But it's much less likely that a D3 school is going to get 4 studs that could compete D1, so the DMR is going to be disproportionately slower because the teams are watered down with 52 sec 400s guys, or 1:56 800 guys, or whatever.

Considering that millions of poor children around the world would give an arm and a leg to go to any university in America,....you all sound incredibly spoiled getting heated over the competition levels of the after school activities that the NCAA offers. I think whoever got on here and said the talent pools are not the difference it is who is working harder is full of crap. Are you really going to tell me that the likes of Rupp, Chalenga, etc don't have more talent than the d2 runners.

When I ran d2 I ran over 120 mile weeks and worked my a off. Don't give me this they just work harder $hit.

Between the hardest workers in D1, and the hardest workers in D3, yes, it does come down to only natural talent.

Do you remember 3 Adams guys breaking 13:50 in Seattle? Do you think you could have made the 5th man on that team? That would take a 14:04.

BTW, please look at the last few USATF indoor and outdoor championships. You've got a D2 guy losing the the likes of Lagat and Rupp but still challenging the two in the final laps.

STFU with the depth argument. Everyone in the world knows D1 is better. But, you forget about the 300 or so absolute horse shit programs that D1 produces. Yeah, I'd expect a SEC school or Oregon to produce. What about all the State U's that don't do anything? They shouldn't be allowed to be called conference champions.

No shit sherlock. And you'll find much more hard workers in D1 than in D3. That's why the difference is a mixture of both elements and it's foolish to think it's one or the other.

right, because you've gone out and logged all the miles and workouts that all the kids in DI and DIII do, and therefore know that there are more hard workers in DI than DIII....right.

If we took the 10th placing D1 and D3 xc teams from each region and averaged the number of hours spent training per week (including EVERYONE on each team's roster), do you honestly think there would be no difference between the D1 and D3 teams?

Total BS. D3 teams are happy to get 9:45 high school runners. Most top D1 schools wouldn't even allow a 9:45 guy on their team. The talent divide is HUGE and if you think a team of hard-working 9:45 guys could ever challenge a bunch of 8:5x 2 milers, you're completely delusional.

I don't know what the average work put in by a D2/D3 vs D1 guy is, but I guarantee you that everyone is working hard at the top level.

Seriously, you aren't funny. I'm not saying this in an offended way. Your posts are legitimately unfunny.

I really like how you have no concept of how divisions work. Of course D1 is faster. That is how it is supposed to be. Bigger schools (generally,) bigger budgets, more talented recruits, etc.. etc... However, not everyone feels that they will develop as an athlete at that highest level. Sports are all about development, mentally and physically. A 4:30 miler might not be suited to train with Oregon. If they go NAIA or D2 they might improve to be a 4:09, 4:12, guy and have a blast competing with a team and watching themselves improve. It is the same story for the 4:12 high school guy who goes D1 and eventually runs 3:59, 4:01. Wherever the athlete is at and develops, they are going to have a blast. Placing a 4:37 miler into a huge D1 program could be a recipe for injuries, let downs, and just a poor over all experience. Isn't that what we are all doing this for anyway? The experience of racing and running. That experience is always improved when substantial progress is made.Time is made up, records are too. Lets just have some fun and compete our balls off. No matter the race/division/age/etc...
