73-year old woman with a 20-year old's body

That's the typical view that's been drilled into us by American society. Act like everyone is the way they are just because of "genetics" and then call the drugged-up 60 year-old who can't walk down the stairs without breaking a hip "normal." It disgusts me sometimes. The blanket "genetics" statement is getting so old and there is so little support for it except popular belief and "that's what my doctor told me so he wouldn't really have to explain it" BS.

She weighs 115 - 120 pounds clearly stated in the article. She has a negative caloric intake she must even is she only runs 6 miles a day. You are so focussed on the running you miss the picture. She does weights every day and she teaches gym classes every day. But all her calories come from shakes and clean food.

The only sugar she has is the added one in the whey shakes.

Don't forget the other amazing stuff this article mentiones like she wakes up every morning at 4 am.

Part of the reason she looks so good is probably because of a light caloric deffict. You age slower when you eat less then you consume. It has been tested on 100's of animals.

Since she lifts weights her body is probably programmed to keep some of the muscle there for mere survival reasons. This is also what it is called survival modus. When times are harsh we need to survive longer to make offspring or at least succesfully.There are animals that can actually grow younger in harsh conditions.

Let me get this straight... you believe that most of the senile old person population is on loads of drugs and medicine, and this woman's fitness is due to another "medicine"? What do you mean by medicine? I would argue that she is NOT on any drugs, and that's why she hasn't devolved into one of those senile old ladies. Beside, what medicine can do that? Definitely no pharmaceutical that I know of can do that.

Looks aren't everything, but she looks great, no matter what the calorie or mileage count.

The odds are overwhelmingly that she is taking some medication, as another poster upthread commented.

HOWEVER, EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW IN THE USA WHO IS OVER 70 YRS OF AGE IS TAKING SOME FORM OF MEDICATION, AND THEY DO NOT LOOK LIKE SHE DOES.

All other things being equal, her appearance and ability are the result of hard work, diligence, and genetics.

There are other people her age on the same meds--and they are not like she is.

There are other people her age with amazing genetics--and they are not like she is.

You don't need steroids to look like that. You just won't find anyone like it in our society where old people are sent the pharm rather early and are kept inactive until they die. I can't blame you for thinking that because you never see anyone in America who is actually healthy, but if you go to some remote parts of the world, you will find people with incredible longevity, and they don't take any sort of medication. Think outside the box a little and stop assuming the worst.

She should give that 20-year-old's body back. She's getting it all wrinkled.

You might be interested in reading the book "Oxygen" that covers some of this territory in a rather interesting way. It is not a book a lot of LetsRun posters would read, as it is a little on the intensive side.

Solly Cholly, but genetics IS part of the equation here. I know many fit women in their 20's, 30's and 40's who are also very lean and proportioned, but that beautiful skin tone and subcutaneous layer of fat is helping her appearance out a TON. Hell, look at the top female runners in their 20's, and they are lower in body fat, more fit and ripped, but look androgynous, with often poorer skin condition and even unhealthy in overall presentation by comparison. You need BOTH the work and genetics to get what she has.

Not to take anything away from her hard work, but good genetics plays a major role in her development. This women would definitely fit in with a group of fit 50 years, yet she is old enough to be their mother.

No, you completely misunderstood what I said.

I said that her appearance and fitness are due to hard work, clean living, and genetics, because there are plenty of other people out there on the same meds and with similar genetics, who are fat pieces of crXp, and who are not like her at all.

Bottom line: whatever her particular situation, she had to work hard for this.

Although, as one other poster mentioned, HGH can apparently do wonders when it comes to ageing.

BTW, I think she's f-ing hot.
