A friend of mine (nearly blind) gets dialysis 3 times a week. Usually, he gets a ride from the local public transit system buses that are specially designed for people with the kinds of problems he has. Today, a regular dialysis day, the public transit system decides they're going to close early, but they don't call him to tell him. He waits outside in bitterly cold weather for an hour for the bus to show up and, when it doesn't, calls them to ask what's up. They tell him that they decided to close early, and that they announced it on the radio and TV. Because he is nearly blind, he sees very little of what is on TV, and he does not listen to a radio.
He calls me up, I drive over there in my private car and take him to his appointment. The roads are fine.
Moral: Don't rely on public transportation, ever, if you value your life.
