although that may seem to be a contradiction, but not really. I think his remark about 22 sec speed was pointed more to natural talent as anything. If you are basicly not very fast then maybe the 800 is not the event you should concentrate on. I think if you can run under 24 without working on the speed then the chance of developing 22 sec speed is good, but if 26 is all you have falling out of bed then maybe a longer distance is more your cup of tea.
True up to a point. I don't have much basic speed, but I can keep it going much longer than others.
