Obamacare ruled Unconstitutional

letting 40 million people in on health insurance is going to cause massive increases in costs. how could you possibly think that it will CUT the deficit???

the most important thing everyone should know about obamacare is that has NOTHING to do with improving our health care system and everything to do with wealth redistribution. if obama really were concerned with trying to fix the system, he would have addressed at least some of the enormous problems with it (eg, tort reform or allowing insurance companies to operate outside of a single state).

Tort reform sounds great, but it is a pretty small cost of healthcare.

Eliminate EMTALA and you eliminate those risks completely. It is perverse to cite the effects of government regulation as necessitating more government regulation.

The way I see it, we already pay these costs. The uninsured already receive some base level of health insurance and it's paid for by the taxpayer. The major component of Obamacare is the requirement of personal health insurance or the option of paying an increase in tax. I like this new requirement. You don't, but that's cool because we are allowed to disagree about things.

I want to know what the biggest reason for opposition to requiring mandatory health insurance.

Saying it is "unconstitutional" is a cop out.

Are those opposed to it currently paying for health insurance?

You know having more people pay in reduces the costs.

I figure there are two types that would oppose this:

1) You do not currently have insurance and do not want the extra expense

2) You have insurance but are concerned about putting a new burden on lower income people

If you are against it which group are you in?

one judge ruled the whole thing void, another ruled one provision void, and two judges ruled it constitutional. The Supreme Court is likely to overturn the provision but not necessarily the whole law (which would be nonsense). It would have been far wiser to have a public option or make it Medicare for All, but that scumbag Lieberman had to offer the possibility and then change his mind, leaving us with this fairly untenable provision in the law (buy private insurance or pay a fine).

A weak public only helps Al Quada. Health care is needed for national security and readiness. Few GOP people are veterans, they just like to blow hot air but won't join the US Army. They don't realize the US must be fit to repel terrorism.

I think the vast majority of Americans disagree, so that's basically a copout answer. Given that we do want to require emergency treatment, what should we do?

It's not a copout. I don't want to require emergency treatment. We should eliminate it.

are you kidding me? $50-300 billion per year in savings (depending on who you want to believe) hardly is a "small cost" of health care.

why don't you just put your hand up and say that you have no idea what you are talking about? how about those of us who have health care insurance, have seen it skyrocket in price and who know that it will continue to skyrocket in price with much worse coverage. do you think you get better or worse care when (1) 40 million non-paying people get added to the system and clog it up and (2) less and less qualified people enter the profession because of what a disaster it is?

health care only deals with life and death situations? interesting world you live in.

The laws of economics are not social constructs, and economic reality is not determined by what people agree upon. Just because you "want" emergency treatment does not mean that you are entitled to it; your "want" doesn't pay the bills. Grow the up.
