To Nerp:
There are many nursing roles that are heavily technical. Specifically, the operating room, ER, and any ICU are highly technical fields. Experience in these fields (and many other fields of nursing) requires extensive knowledge of high tech equipment. Even though the patients in the OR or ICU usually aren't able to communicate, you have to deal with helping their loved ones. Furthermore, regardless of the patient's level of consciousness, you are always acting as a patient advocate. In all aspects of nursing, you work in a team environment which I think translates well for many people with a background in athletics. Nursing is an awesome field with the ability to change gears multiple times in your career. Time and education spent in highly acute areas (OR, ER, ICU, etc) gives you the experience needed to do other really awesome things such as being a med flight nurse or being a nurse anesthetist (which happens to make bank). Good for you for not letting stereotypes keep you away from a sweet profession!
