Steelers = America's Team??

The Steelers are on the brink of tying the media dubbed "Patriots dynasty" the early 2000s. They have the most Superbowl wins of any team and are tied for the most Superbowl appearances with Dallas. They HAVE to be talked about as one of, if not the, greatest dynasties in football. In an era where we measure success mainly on Superbowl rings they clearly are above the rest. Their head coaching is consistantly superb (noll, cowher, tomlin) and, despite being an idiot off the field, Roethlisberger has definitely demonstrated that he is one of the best QBs of all time. 10-2 career postseason record and 3 superbowl appearances (and 2 rings) is quite impressive. You gotta start giving the Steel city some respect

Of course, unlike Roethlisberger was actually charged and tried for his crime, but don't let the details muddy the waters. Granted, he was aquitted, but Ben wasn't even arrested or tried.

pro franchises are all the same. none of the players are local products. with the salary cap the teams are like mcdonald's, walmart, starfuk's franchises. never think of an nfl team a local college team.

A long time ago, the Steelers were asked to take the title "Americas Team" Art Sr. wanted nothing to do with it. He felt it was show boating, and that was not the Steeler way.

The Cowboys were offered the title, and of course they took it and have called themseleves it ever since.

The truth is, they just took Pittsburgh's reject.

You get them real facts out of here sonny. Only Super Bowl appearances matter, don't you know that? The point is that Green Bay has been competing at the highest level for nearly their entire existance, the Steelers were virutally non-existent at the top of the NFL before the 70's.

They also made the playoffs in the 70's and 80's.

The Squeelers have 6 NFL championships and had only 1 post-season appearance before 1972, despite being in the league since 1933.

Both teams have been to the playoffs 26 times.

The squeelers have done a great job since 1972, with regard to building a winning tradition. For the 39 years before that, they were just finding their way it appears.

If the Cowboys had been around prior to 1960, they would have a say in it as well but they weren't. They have appeared in the post-season 30 times and have won it all 5 times, truley impressive. In the league 27 less years than the Steelers and have been to the post-season 4 times more and won it all 1 less time.

The fact the Packers were great in the 20s' 30's 40's 60's, won it again in 96 and are competing again for the title is just amazing. If the Browns and Bears could find ways to win again, that would also be remarkable. Tough to have a winning tradition over such a long period of time. Doesn't happen to often in sports.

Correction. After reviewing Dallas history, they certainly have a better team history than Pittsburgh as well. They entered the league in 1960 and the practically hit the ground running, winning their first NFL championship in 1971.

They have an amazing playoff record, 30 times in 50 years of being in the league.

1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009

So they are basically Pittsburgh Squeelers, without the first 39 years of no titles and only 1 post-season appearance.

Sqeeelers had the 7th highest payroll last year. Cowboys had the 4th lowest.

If the players and coaches come from all over America, and theere is a salary cap, how in the hell is it Dallas's, or New Orleans', or Green Bay's, or Pittsburg's, or San Francisco's team ? Do you root for you local Walgreen Drug Store, or Safeway Supermarket ? Probably not since there is not difference in chain stores. There is also no difference in NFL franchises. SO stop with the stupidity will you ! The players and coaches have temp jobs, they go back home in the off season, and could care less where they play.
