I believe my cousin and his wife, also a former Nike employee, may have had a few issues with it; if so, they never went into them in my presence, nor did I feel it my place to inquire. Swoosh's author, Julie Srasser, was bound to depict her late husband in the best possible light, of course. Few are privy, I suspect, to what precisely occasioned the split between Knight and Strasser, but clearly Rob felt misused, and obviously, Knight harbored ill will; how much was a result of Strasser going over to the cross-town enemy, and how much predated that is hard to say.

As one whose friendships with both men meant much to him, this rift must have been hard on my cousin.

To get back to your question, there are many things in the book that I know about only from that source, though I was acquainted superficialy with many of the principals.

Depiction of the matters I knew about firsthand, as well as at one remove, seemed largely consistent with my experience and understanding, but I was young, naive, especially about business matters,and hardly an insider by any stretch of the imagination.

However, when I worked at a retail store back in the mid 80s Reebok and Nike were battling it out. I learned that if I wore Nike shoes when the Reebok rep came, that the rep would ship a pair of shoes to me to wear. When the Nike rep would come I would wear Reebok. Swoosh! A new pair of shoes would be shipped. The reps really liked having the store staff wear their shoes.

Actually , most of them were hired by Peter Moore. I remember when the Beaverton Nike Office was in an old DMV building off Allen Blvd. I used to go to the Employee Warehouse on S.W. 142nd Ave and buy Cortez blems. Most people think that the first Nike Shoe with Air was the Max, but it was the Tailwind in 1979 (possibly late 1978.) That was a great shoe and most of my injuries cleared up within weeks. Once Nike opened it's Campus the attitude among the employees became holier-than-thou. Many had no athletic background or any clue as to the history of the company. That why I enjoyed working for adidas in the early 90's when it morphed out of Sports Inc. People were hungry for a company that truly represented athletes and not just fashion.

It seems like some of you guys are going overboard with the idea of having to wear your companies gear. It may not be helping your stock, but if you're used to running in a different brand's shoes at home, I don't think it's a big deal.

you obviously don't understand the culture. also, not supporting your company is idiotic because every brand makes comparable products. as i mentioned earlier, all brands source and build their respective products within the same factories in China. all the athletic brands are brilliant product marketers and the consumer buys into the "technology", marketing platforms and the emotional tie-in.

bottom line is that you should support your company. as an industry person i find it baffling that an individual would not wear their brands products. it would be like playing for the Yankees but you grew-up a Red Sox fan and you chose to wear a Red Sox uniform while being paid by the Yankees. that's exactly what an individual is doing by wearing competitor product and not the brand they work for. OR, to put it in letsrun terms, it would be like Shalane Flanagan or Kara Goucher (sponsored by Nike) wearing adidas racing flats or any adidas gear for that matter while training and racing.

the athletic industry is (in its on way) a professional world where an individual is given substantial discounts (a huge perk) while working for their respective brand. wearing your companies products is just plain common sense.

I remember once I wore my Coast Guard uniform to my job in the Navy. Boy was I in trouble!

I have wide feet and it is always difficult to find shoes that are comfortable, especially when buying them over the internet. Fortunately, these fit the bill quite well from the first wearing when I put them on and breathed a sigh of relief. Nice to know Orthofeet a shoe company I can depend on for future purchases.

He wouldn't be able to literally bring her into his work any time because of that. It would be showing up to Bekele's hotels wearing Kenya flag colors. He would kick you out of the place.

It was a Boston Marathon jacket, so I made an exception. Neither of us were working at Nike at the time and it obviously was not at work to begin with. It was a restaurant we were celebrating at with friends after the Boston Marathon, hence the jacket.

I would fire you the very first day you do that. It's like working for Delta Air lines wearing an American Airlines shirt on. Or being a republican wearing a democrat lapel pin. Companies appreciate loyalty quite a lot. You don't show loyalty, your chances of promotion become dimmer. Wear your swoosh.

Literally, every post you literally type on your keyboard has the word literally every fourth word. It's literally crazy. It literally almost hides the fact that you literally are the worst on LRC at spelling and grammar I have literally seen.
