Like many runners in the USA I found a sponsor plus I made a little from winnings, nothing like today's $$$$$$$ though.
I loved running in the trails on Pevine Peak above campus. I lived right next to it for a while, out the door, turn right and on the trails, fabulous!! Lots of speed work on the golf courses, through town along the river when weather conditions were bad and up in the Sierras occasionally. Did a 4 hour run one time up to the top of Pevine with one of the younger UNR runners, he kicked my butt ;-)
Ran with a mixed bunch but had some seriously intense workouts with Domingo around Virginia Lake and also a long road fartlek we did a few times. Morning runs at 6:30 just 30 mins, anybody welcome. Afternoons could get very intense, one long run Sunday. That got longer and longer when I returned to UK, up to 23 miles much of it XC, with guys like Jack Buckner or Dave Buzza occasionally met up with out on the route.
The regular hour runs in Reno could get quite frisky depending on how I felt, I always ran as I felt, feeling good meant a burn up, feeling bad meant a struggle.
