East coast people: how are you getting your runs in in this blizzard?

I put one foot in front of the other.

I've been sick for the last 4 days anyway and can't run, so this couldn't have been timed better.

If I weren't? CC spikes on whatever got packed down, road or otherwise. Failing that? The mill is always a welcome sight.

A friend officiated that meet--he has yet to thaw.

I bet it was warmer to run, jump in the ocean, and then warm up than to have to stand around officiating.

Sorry but Sunday morning and afternoon were hell and different from Sunday night.

Some towns here in Mass. pre-treated the roads with salt before the storm (e.g., Wellesley). These roads were already clear (but very wet) Monday morning. If I had access to a treadmill (I'm just visiting, so I didn't) I would've definitely run inside.

Its all about group runs. Misery enjoys company.

Our snow comes maybe 3/4 of the way up my shin. I've been running in it every day. The streets are cleared but I've been hitting trails for the most part. Snow running is awesome. Of course you go slower. But you're there for the effort, not the pace-per-mile.

In two days I have to do a workout, so two nights ago I shoveled a lane clear in the track downtown.

Sunday I got a nice 12 miler in on some trails with a group before the blizzard hit. (The first flakes fell around 11:00 AM here in northern NJ.)

Monday I conceded to the snowy roads, cold, and strong winds, and ground out six miles on the dreadmill.

Tuesday (yesterday) I managed to run for an hour on snow covered roads and a school driveway near my house. The going was slow, but at least there weren't many cars out with the schools closed this week.

This morning I did four miles on some lightly traveled roads, and I was running on bare pavement. Plan on getting out for nine miles on the roads in a little while.

A question for the many trail runners on this board:

I'm not fond of plodding through knee-deep snow. Someone mentioned running on trails after snowmoblies have gone through. That's one possibility, if I can find some. Another is to run on a half mile to mile section of trail loop, and after a few times around I'll start to wear a rut in the snow. Any other suggestions?

treat it just like any other day. Get your shoes, go outside and start your watch.

I kind of enjoy the blizzarding weather. It makes your run more interesting than just easily gliding on dry roads. See it in optimistic light.

Prospect Park in Brooklyn is plowed quite well, just beware the black ice. Getting there's also half the battle with the shoddy jobs on the sidewalks and streets.

On a sidenote I ran into one Nicholas Cage running in the park this evening. He mentioned he was getting a heads up in preparing for a starring role in yet another Prefontaine biopic. Apparently it's going for a wide audience distribution and they've enlisted several Oregon notables to correct Mister Cage's running technique and form for the big screen. He mentioned something about how actors usually have an exaggerated stride and awkward arm motions in most motion pictures (he used Kiefer Sutherland running in 24 as a prime example). The specialists they've enlisted are supposedly tweaking his foot plant and arm/thumb angles for optimal motion capture. Good luck with that.

Winter is road running season. My knees start to bother me eventually from the slipping when I run on the snow day after day. Central Park is plowed pretty well, and it's a 6-mile loop so it'll be a bit boring but at least you know it'll be clear.
