Sol isn't going to break the WR (?!), but he is a huge talent.

Malmo, kindly flattened out his splits based on each lap & that devastating finish & the number was

~ 26'45

He only needs a ~5s improvement next year to be capable of getting into 26'30s in a perfect race.

As for Kennster, he didn't actually break 5 or 10k WRs after '05, but he ran a lot of 12'50 - 12'52s on the circuit with 52/53 finishes - just those flattened out ->

~ 12'40

& that's without analysing each of the individual laps like Malmo did for Sol above. I'm sure that wouda got it down to 12'35 ( pretty much similar to his 12'37WR flattened out which was run much more evenly & obviously had little theoretical improvement ).

So, I'd have to say he was pretty much in WR shape in those races if he had wanted to chase it.

he doesn't have the speed (at this stage) over 1500m/3000m/5000m to get close to 26.30. He can get down to 26.45

in a perfect race (no 1.56 last 800m!).

speed is not a problem

farah who i'd say is an inferior runner slashed his 1500pb down from ~ 3'38 to 3'33 in one go once he got into a quality race

i have little doubt sol coud go 3'33/3'34 currently & that's plenty speed for 3 - 10k

I agree that 3.33 probably is enough, but I don't know whether Solin Chrissky has that kind of speed.

Venty, I am not necessarily disagreeing with your points, but I will add, in response to this general thread topic, that if anybody is going to run under 26:40 in the next few years, athletes with a better chance than Solinksy would likely include:

Tariku Bekele 7:28.7 in 2010

Alamirew Yenew 7:28.82 in 2010

Silas Kiplagat 3:29.27 in 2010 (this kid may run 12:40)

Moses Kipsiro 12:50 in 2007 and 27:33 in Nairobi in 2010

Zersenay Tadese 26:37 in 2006

OK, I guess I could spell his name correctly: Solinsky...I might add Eliud Kipchoge to the list. Note: I am not implying that the runners in the above list are likely to run under 26:40 in the future...I am simply asserting that they would have a better chance than Solinsky of doing so...of course, this is only one man's opinion.

seeing he was a 3'37 guy when running 13'12 & he's now a 12'55 guy, there is little doubt he can go 3'33

And with the talk about WRs, he has established himself as someone who is basically clueless about running.

You guys are ridiculous. Solinsky was simply trying to relate to the clueless interviewer. He is keenly aware of the difficulty and improbability of achieving a world record in the next year, or ever. Which isn't to say he shouldn't dream of it, or go for it. Stop overanalyzing everything.

No, he did what a lot of people do and then realized it too late. He spoke without thinking and that is perfectly fine and he then recanted his statement, his right. Chris knows the effort it took to get under 27 and the type of training involved, he did it. How many guys have broken 26:50 and never got close to 26:25 let alone the WR?

He didn't say he was DREAMING of it, he said it was his GOAL that he was going after in the next year. You clowns put the word DREAM in there. Chris Solinsky is no doubt a very capable runner, but he's not dropping almost 2 seconds per lap, for 25 laps in any 10,000 race with a pr of 26:59. To compare him to Bekele and what he's done is just plain silly.

Does he have the right to talk about his goals, sure, we all do. I ran with a guy who was a year younger (I was a senior) and had just run 4:48 as a junior and he swore up and down that he was going to win the state meet the next year and break 4:10 in the process. I told him you are talking about almost 10 seconds per lap improvement in just one year, it's not likely. I told him to be realistic about his goals and to not make them too lofty, aka baby steps. Break 4:30 first and then go from there. Well he never broke 4:30 and we was not injured nor did he even make it to the State Meet.

Is this a fair comparison to Chris, not exactly, but the analogy is not that far off. To even start talking about a WR he'd have to be at least to the 26:40 range and I don't see him running that fast. I'd be shocked if Chris went out in 13:08 plust (WR pace) for a 10,000 race and would actually like to see it happen. With a 5000 pr of 12:55(?), I don't see that happening. Again, he was goal setting, not dreaming and it's his right. But, people, including me have the right to disagree. 26:17, no way, absolutely no way.

He simply misspoke by saying something he shouldn't have said.

No one knows for sure, but I'd wager that you are wrong on Dathan and Ryan and possibly Chris as well. I see him breaking 27, but not much faster. Webb is the ONLY one that I personally agree on, but that doesn't make you or me right.
