Not sure you need to do 200's at 800 pace or faster indoors. That is the point. There are many alternatives. If you ran cross continue to build that base and be sure to include plys, strides, hills, and long reps on a marked off stretch outdoors. Most schools have a hallway long enough to get some speed drills and striders in.
If you didn't run cross, you should be building a base now and gradually work in the above. Yes, speed is a use it or lose it prop. but repeat 200's indoors is not necessary for optimal performance in June.
Many more injuries as a result of indoor track and indoor training than the alternative.
When the Aussies discussed building an indoor facility back in 1982, I told them they were nuts. We analyzed the European approach, the African approach, and the North American approach and decided it wasn't worth the trouble. They may have changed recently, but we saw no advantage to a strong indoor program then.
Do High Schools in CT who do have an indoor program have an advantage? Yes, but how much of that is because coaches can virtually work with their athletes year round?
AS I've said before, I can name quite a few national class athletes from CT who did little, if any, training indoors.
