Stanford has a very good distance program; however, I don't see any team anytime soon topping the UTEP 1981 dominance:

Kenyans athletes are once again being highly recruited as Texas Tech top five are all Kenyan women, the Kirui brothers in Mississippi, Sambu in Arizona, (soon to be American citizend) Sam Chelanga. So if a few more of Kenya's top youngsters start coming to U.S universities and enough of them are recruited to the same team along with U.S top juniors- alittle unlikely but possible!

Teams that give almost all their scholarships to distance runners will always have an advantage in XC and field unbalanced track teams.

It just fact dude, and it answers a common debate on this site about the state of XC versus Track and certain schools.

Oregon, while having some advantages, will always have a dis-advantage in recruiting in that they will never abandon their heritage of weight events and multi's in addition to distance running.

When is the last time you saw a Stanford athlete win an NCAA multi title? Or point in the hammer, shot, or discus.

People laud Oregon's distance history, but many forget Mac Wilkin's won gold in the Discus.

Its going to be interesting to watch Stanford and see if they can deliver or flop like last year. Stanford gonna have their hands full and can't afford any setback otherwise the title again will elude their grasp.

Stanford is number cross country team once Oklahoma State gives us a reason to demote them from the top spot. OSU won last year, they were better than Stanford, period. OSU has been far more dominant this year than they were last year, so let's not crown Stanford the champions already. Big 12 is just as tough of a conference as the Pac 10, and OSU went 1-4.

It's funny because I was about to post about OSU being the next best team we've seen since 2003 Stanford. Also consider this, they don't lose anyone for next year. Stanford on the other hand loses Heath. I just hope both teams live up to the hype at NCAA's.

The next great college will be the one who starts recruiting the best Kenyan teenagers that will be willing to come run for a U.S university. Texas Tech women has already went that route and is now one of the top 5 women distance schools in the country.

If Stanford and OSU want to be competitive in the future they will start looking at Kenya athletes as well as top U.S high schoolers for recruiting.

Stanford rested Ben Johnson (BenJo), their #4 at both the Stanford Invite and Pre-Nats. Word is he has a soft-tissue problem in a foot but may be ready for NCAAs.

Also, Brendon Gregg, in top-7 last year, is just now training after suffering a stress fracture or reaction back in September. Likely will redshirt.

Regarding the 2003 team that won NCAAs with Hall, Dobson, Sage, Robinson, etc.: Their #7 runner, Seth Hejny, took 33rd, thus making All-American honors. The 2003 team is still the only men's team in NCAA history to have all 7 runners earn AA status. Not even the UTEP team of 1981 can claim that distinction.

If you would like a preview of NCAAs coming up, look no further than the Stanford Invite back in September. Stanford's Big 3 let Dave McNeil get as much as a 30-second lead; he won by 4 seconds. Also check out the splits at Pre-Nats: Chelanga was 14:25 at 5k in his race, Stanford's Big 3 was 14:45 in their race. The Stanford guys eventually finished 2 seconds faster than Chelanga.

In other words, if Chelanga or McNeil or anyone else take off at a sub-29:00 pace, Stanford's trio will let him go and control the chase pack. But, like at Pre-Nats and today at Pac-10s, with 2k-3k to go, the trio takes off.

Chelanga will likely win if he has the same record-breaking performance as last year. However, through today's results, it's very reasonable to expect Stanford's Big 3 to go 2-3-4 with McNeil looking like the only other runner who could beat them or break up the trio.

The Rosas only have like 3.4 GPAs (I know at least Joe does)...pretty low for a Stanford recruit, but then again they are crazy fast!!!

Not quite. You forgot about the individuals. Including individuals, Stanford finished 2, 4, 5, 6, 12 for 29 points. The NCAA (excluding Stanford of course) finished 1, 3, 7, 8, 9 for 28 points, so the NCAA combined squeaked out a one-point victory.

Still, I believe it was the second most dominating victory in NCAA Div 1 history, and the most dominant victory by a team consisting of all American citizens (I think that's right, but do correct me if I'm wrong).

Stanford isn't a lock for the team title despite how impressive their top 3 are running. Last year Stanford was favorite and look what happened at NCAA's. OSU is very strong and could upset Stanford. Stanford needs to have a VERY strong run from their 4th and 5th man; otherwise, they open the door for OSU and maybe 1-2 other teams!

The most interesting part to me isn't the team title but the men's and women's individual title:

Who do you think will grab the men's and women's individual titles?

Can Sam Chelanag repeat, will Lucy VanDalen remain unbeaten?

Will Kenya finally add another female victory?

Will Jordan Hasay capture her first NCAA title?

Unless you are an Alan Webb, a German Frenandez or pretty close to that, you are not going to get a full ride at Stanford. The average kid that goes to schools like Stanford, Duke, the Ivies, etc., usually don't need an athletic scholarship. Btw, I have first hand knowledge about this.
