Do any sub-elite / local runners dope?

I've got a photo of Ron Hill awarding a trophy to Eddy about years ago for a race we all ran

Used to regularly see Ron at races or in his shop before I moved down South. I would love to know what he thinks of him now

It's amazing how all the runners who run fast on here are accused of doping. When someone actually fails a test everyone pops up to say how nice a guy he is

He might appear to be a nice guy, but this is a running website. When it somes to running he was a cheat. ok he's not a mass murderer or something but when it comes to running he's not a nice guy I have no respect for him and

I can only hope people are trolling here, I mean really your reasoning for Eddy H being a great guy is that he helped people who came to stay with him make huge, unexpected leaps in performance? Seriously, you don't see anything wrong with that logic? Guy who dopes + unexpected jumps in performance around time of training with guy who dopes = ?????

if you're a vegetarian or vegan, its a lot cheaper to get iron in pill form than to buy enough spinach, beans, etc to get 100% or more of the rdv every day

Put me in the category of losing thousands of dollars (sometimes in ONE race) to Eddy. Raced him lots of times. If anyone thinks he started using drugs as a Masters runner, you don't know Eddy. By the time he reached 40, he was an expert on drug use. Who actually knows when he started but it wasn't when he was 40, or 41, or 42. Give me a break.

The guy arrived in the states with drugs in his veins. He is probably still using them.

Eddy is a nice guy. But he used drugs his entire career. In fact, I learned of EPO from Eddy rumors about 20 years ago. Never heard about it before Eddy. The rumors were eventually proved to be true.

I see him frequently to this day. Being nice doesn't mean he never used drugs. It means he is a nice guy on drugs. Wouldn't you be nice if your competition wasn't on drugs and you got to hammer them regularly because there wasn't a test for the drug for most of your career?

This isn't an Eddy thread so I'll stop. But wake up please. Prior to posting.

I don't think anybody's fooling anybody. The prevailing opinion is that Eddy is an asshole doper. No doubt he has a few buddies who are happy to defend him, but the fact is he's a convicted cheat, and has no credibility or respect among this community, regardless of what's being posted on here by a variety of random handles not associated with regular posters (and in my mind all the same person, possibly Eddy himself, but it doesn't really matter who).

i have a friend who was on a state championship track team, and learned only years later that a number of his teammates were using steroids.

One guy from my college team failed one of the random NCAA tests for an anabolic agent. he wasn't particularly good...senior year, hadn't made a mark, but he seemed more sensitive than the average guy to the social standing within the team that improvement conferred. it definitely doesn't take monetary incentives to push people to dope

We all do, but the hallucinogenic kind. That's why we never made elite level.

This is exactly the motivation that I was talking about. Local running scenes have a bizarre heirarchy within them based on times. I was thinking that there may be people so worried about their place in this social network. That they would dope to get higher within it. I think it is funny. But also sad. Kind of like when a clown dies.

I would like to respond to this slanderous statement about Ilsa--

1. She doesn't take any drugs or medications legal or otherwise. She refuses to even taken an aspirin or Advil.

2. She lives and trains in Hawaii and NYC.

3. She isn't frail. She comes from great stock and is extremely strong given her short stature.

4. She is looking forward to running a marathon shortly and is training with an eye on the 2012 Olympics.
