He's all about the BX group.
I guess he prefers sub-elites because they probably just follow the program and don't have time to think about it because they all have full time jobs and families etc.
Then why have nearly all of the guys in BX split, too? It's not just the elites abandoning that ship.

You are partially correct. His major problem is the self appointed title ELITE. 2:12-2:15 marathoners are not elite. Jonesy enjoys working with these type athletes until they start thinking differently.

BX was the original group formed when Julian and Jones got together, plus some other local guys.

What odd universe do you live in where a 2:12-2:15 marathon is not elite. That time will put you in the top 15 or 20 at most major marathons and win 85% of marathons in the world.

Jones likes working with athletes to pass on the knowledge and skills that he learned long ago. He knows the ability level of the athletes he trains , no false aspirations on his part.
Boulder has been and will be a place athletes come looking for the magic to transform themselves to the next level. Showing up and running no matter the coach in most cases does not bring the magic , sorry.
The cycle of changing coaches and seeking perfection will continue.
This group ? Good national class runners , elite for a US standard not world class elite. If they break the top 50 world list , maybe they can then they call themselves " world class " , a goal to aspire to.
Rizzo came into the group at the wrong time when it was all falling apart, he really didn't know what he was getting himself into. Not sure when he joined the group, maybe the spring? This is not Rizzo's fault. Hartman, wants to be great and he is willing to do whatever possible. Jonesy has left him high and dry a couple of times, while Hartman was always there committed. The only reason why Jorge is probably staying with Jonesy is because of Reebok. Plus Jorge is coming to the end of his career and he would rather play golf then actually run. Ed got injured last summer and retired. Plus wasn't getting better. Troopy has made the biggest sacrifices of anyone in the group and moving his whole family to boulder to train with Jonesy, but might have been a bad decision out of everyone. Cabada left the group in the beginning of the year after being there longer then anyone else but Jorge. Cabada was injured twice in a span of 6 months, so he wanted a change. Josh Glaab was also in the group for way over a year, I know he isn't all that elite, but he has something in common with the rest of the guys. Which is one of my main points, nobody has gotten better under Jonesy, not one guy.
Someone mentioned Hartman's 2:12, the guy is 29 years old and debuted a 2:15 4 years ago, its not like he ran 2:09. He should have already ran 2:12. So I dont think it was Jonesy who got him to the new level.
Cabada winning that US marathon title in 2008, the guy debuted a 2:12 and is the American Record Holder in the 25k back in 2006. That was no surprise.
Jorge made the Olympics summer 2008 in the 10k. He is a 27:42 guy, he better had made it. No PR under Jonesy
No one has received one PR in the history of the group except Hartman in the marathon, which is about 2 1/2 years old. Now why is that? Are all these established athletes thinking too much? Every single one? I doubt that.
The problem is, Jonesy trained everyone the way he was trained. What worked for Jonesy didn't work for the group. Jonesy is just too proud to change and take advice from anyone else. He refuses to use science, he refuses to learn anything.

First legit post on this thread. In the end, nobody is coming out of this looking good, in spite of what the various sycophants may feel. Both sides are to blame for a bad marriage.
the irony in this entire post, is that it is highly unlikely that anyone actually involved, has posted. i don't think i have once read one true, factual claim in this entire thread yet.
each individual who has left has their reasons, as the same for Jonesy. members who've left from the elite group have different reasons for leaving compared to members of the bx group. simple as that.
in the end, it really doesn't matter why anyone left, or why anyone is staying. different things work for different people - end of story. at the end of the day, those elites who have left still have their contracts, and are still racing professionally, just the same as jomesy is till coaching an olympian, and a slew of sub-elites - he's still coaching.
people can talk and argue back and forth over reasons for both parties to part, and in the end, it's all interpertations, and different things work (or not work) for different people.

lol, even a non-connoisseur, an amateur foodie who frequents a number of restaurants enough knows when their plater tastes like shat, they may say differently why they are sending the plater back and even pay for the shat dish they received , as the connoisseur will just say my disk taste like shat and leave in disgust , and then there are others who will continue eating the pile of shat and squint their eyes in agony all in the effort to not offend the cook and will tip the cook and tell their friends they are best friends with this said cook and they should come and eat with them sometime
