nevermind, i just read in an article that it said he has his daughter train primarily on soft park trails. everything looks fine.

Dear BOO HOO,
I honestly wasn't crying at the time, but my observations left a lasting impression. I just felt the dad's action wasn't necessary, especially in light of the conditions and the age of his daughters. At that time, they didn't appear to be having any fun.
I'm sure if you think long enough, you can think something negative.
Gee at this time from what I observe she looks like she's having fun now. Does that bother you?
yeah, im scared she's gonna make all the boys look bad
Dear BOO HOO,
I sincerely hope she is having a ton of fun; and I'm not sure what you want me to say "negative".
However, I would recommend reading Bob Glover's book, 'The Runner's Handbook', specifically the section on children's running. At the time, it was a great resource, along with a number of other articles, and individuals who were helpful in my research.

Why do all Briana threads become the same ol' same ol' yada blah bickering about she is too young running too much...
Mutola,
Please go back and read madmatheus post on Marc Bloom's article. Also, I saw a study back then that rated high school girls x-c as the No. 1 injury sport as a % of participants. Maybe someone out there can update that finding.
Mutola,
Just for the record, this is the first time I have seen any post on this subject. Were the others on this site?
In case anyone wants to analyze the run, here are her splits from dyestat:
400 - 1:12.6
800 - 2:30.2
1K - 3:09.5
1200 - 3:48.9
1600 - 5:08.9
2K - 6:30.0
2400 - 7:51.8
2800 - 9:14.2
3K - 9:54.7
3200 - 10:35.2
3600 - 11:59.9
4K - 13:23.0
4400 - 14:46.5
4600 - 15:26.3
4800 - 16:05.1
5000 - 16:43.02 NR
Can't we take one day off from criticizing all young girls that run fast?
Oh yeah. And on the other thread, someone just figured out that this run is a world record for 13 yr old girls.
based on that 3200 split, what do you think she could run in the 3200 or 2 mile solo? my guess is around 10:17 right now for 2 miles, maybe even faster. I would be more worried if she were running these kind of times at the age of 12, but 16:43 for a 13 year old girl who will be 14 in October isnt that worrisome. With adequate rest and recovery, the sky is the limit.
Sometimes the sky is the limit and sometimes the sky falls...
whats the only thing needed to get her to the next level? i think that her times will drop considerably if weight training is introduced to her program, possibly sub 16 track performances while in high school.
that's fast
5:09, 5:24, 5:30 per 1600
Not great pacing. Might get even faster with more girls to run with and now she knows she can hang with laps-at-80.
Put her in a college race (outdoors), where she could know who is going to run 16:30 and she will do even better.
yeah, i think she could do exceptional like that Wie girl in golf. she has what it takes to compete with good college runners now, not including Kim Smith.
if she keeps improving, she has the greatest shot of taking down Mary Shea's High School record of 16:13, for outdoor track. Not sure about Lynn Bjorklun's 9:08, but, its so early, anything is possible. She'll probably be running low 16s, high 15s regularly by her freshman and sophomore year in high school, if not faster.
lets just see where this girl is by her senior year in high school.... no one will know her name. i am not trying to be rude or harsh, but lets be realistic. it is easy for young girls before puberty to run really fast. running a lot is also hazardous for their future health. i am excited for this girl, but i hope she can stay mentally and physically healthy throughout high school, let alone college...
