Sorry, no 10K steeple. This is not allowed either:

And in Wadsworth, OH there was an annual toilet tossing contest but that is no longer contested either.

American steeple as a whole is currently ranked 3rd in the world.
World-class pace would be 5:30 miles. Yawn.
This is a great idea for event organizers everywhere. Add in another long, grueling distance race that lasts for 30min+ and raise concession stand revenue instantly. The plan essentially guarantees at least 1/2 the crowd goes to get another popcorn and coke.

well, unless you've run the race, it's hard to understand the physical toll the 35 jumps take on your body. the fatigue feels different than in any other kind of race. i can't imagine doing this for 10k.
you could have 25 or 50 jumps over 10k distance.
Why do so many people accept the premise that the OP stated, that the steeplechase is supposed to be XC on the track?
Because that is stupid.
Wow if you factor in that a 7:53 open 3k is roughly equal to a 28:27 10k, I highly doubt anyone could manage 2:50 pace for THAT many jumps. Crazy.
