Look at JD (I don't have the IAAF tables handly) Vdot Tables gives us3:34.2 3:51.2Again the 3.51.5 is a slightly better time but it isn't enough to say he is making it to the top

Beating guys when they are having a bad day is one thing. Beating guys when they are having good days is another. And beating a 3:32 guy doesn't mean that you can run 3:32. As far as weather Kiprop was within about a second of his pr and winning easily. Mekonnen Gebremedhin was within a second of his PR. It wasn't that bad.I have seen tons of guys that look like they are easing through quick times and saying things like "I haven't done any speed work yet" and "I am training through this race" and when the peak season comes they run no faster. I hope wheatly full fills that promise of 2 years ago. but I am waiting til he runs the times. And no 3:51.7 is not going to win a lot of meets these days

Are you one of those guys who will hail an e. african as an olympic medalist or winner of some big meet but then when an american beats them the e. africans had a bad race so it is counted as less??? Well when those very e. africans win races some of the guys in those races are not having their best days. When was the last time you saw a race where every guy in it finished withing a few tenths of their lifetime best???

When you put together a field of 7 of the top 10 milers from the previous year and a couple of other guys who were in the top 18, and you finish 5th you are top class. Period. The winner was less than 2 seconds ahead of him in a rabbited race. Period.

Very few guys in the world could run 1:45.0 AND 3:51. Even less could do it outside of europe. Why do you think with the quality of the 5K field at Eugene they set a meet record and US soil record of just under 13, while in europe 12:55 is often chump change? Because Eugene is not that fast for distance races.

Of course Wheating hasn't run 1:45 yet (pr is 1:45.03) or 3:51 (3.51.7x) so he isn't one of those guys either. But hey lets wait 3 weeks. He can go to europe and try and run sub 1:45 or 3:35. And if it doesn't happen is it going to because it is the end of a long season, he didn't get in right meets, or some other excuse? I wouldn't be shocked if he ran 1:44/3:49. I also wouldn't be shocked if he never ran faster.

Regardless of times, The Pre Classic was the de Facto National Championship, and it is telling that what was a race-within-a-race rabbited from wire-to-wire by Kenyans was dominated by the dyed-in-the-wool "sit-and-kick" artist wearing the Big "O". He has shown us that he has all the tools it takes to be the GOAT of American milers.

Our current depth in this event is unparalleled, but none of the contenders bring his 800 chops, as well as a unique rawness, freshness and sense of wonder into the event. It will be interesting to see how his coaching situation evolves in the coming seasons. This one is potentially Vin's master work.

1:45 is 1:45:00 not anything slower. Ordo you count a guy who runs 4:00:99 as a 4 min miler? Or can I call my self a 2 hour marathon guy?
